Winterhouse The Secrets of Winterhouse by Ben Guterson
This is fine for any elementary school library. A orphan girl who lives with her not so nice aunt and uncle gets to live in a magical hotel. There is an evil entity trying to come back from the dead and has minions do their bidding and the orphan girl has to stop the dangerous entity. Hmmmm sounds familiar to a different orphan story but in a magical school. Still book is fine.

The Sunsets of Miss Olivia Wiggins by Laminack & Bergum
Grandmother is living in a nursing home. Her family comes to visit. She is unable to say anything and sits very still. I think this book is great to help young children who visit elderly. The images are beautiful.
Three Hens and A Peacock by Laminack & Cole
Very cute story. And the pictures are very expressive. I would like to buy for my high school library for teens to read to young children. Enjoy.
The Sister’s Grimm The Fairy Tale Detective by Michael Buckley
Imagine being abandoned by your parents and it is just you and your sister living in various foster homes. Then meeting a grandmother, you never knew existed and learning your parents were kidnapped. It's a whole new world where fairy tale characters live. It's a good read and fine for any school library.

I introduced the first book of this new series to one of my students. This second book in the series just came out. I haven't bought it for my high school library yet. The girl couldn't wait and bought it for herself already. I'm getting the book. The series The Uglies prior to this one is very popular and I'm glad that there is a spin off. Wild Bird by Wendelin Van Draanen
This author has been a great author but she has just brought her game to a whole new level. I liked what I read. It made me uncomfortable in a good way. I was in the desert with Wren. I was with her when she carved a up her grandmother's piano. I was with her when she had to fight of coyotes alone in the desert. I was with her when she stole her first item at a drug store. And I was with Wren as she faced the greatest challenge of her life. It's a good read. Read it. Alcohol, drugs, stealing, vandalizing, lies and deceit and then there is redemption. I'm getting this for my high school library.
Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp
Eh. I wasn't really impressed. It fell flat. Think Lost (the TV show) meets Shirley Jackson's The Lottery flavoring the book. It was just didn't work. Read it before you decide to put in your library.

Here To Stay by Sara Farizan
What I liked about the book is that it brings in problems that Middle Eastern teens may face in bullying. What I didn't like was how the dialog seemed a little to advanced for some of the teens.
It's fine for any high school but it's not my favorite in writing. Two girls are also bullied because they are starting to become a couple.

I wasn't really wild about this book. I was hoping it would go one way but it went a completely different way. Not my favorite book at all.

Hey Kiddo by Jarrett J Krosoczka
This is a brilliant graphic novel about his life story. Told in a moving way. However there is a lot of for mature reader moments. His mom did drugs and was an addict. His grandparents loved him but they could be real characters. There is some drinking and smoking as well. I am interested in getting this for my library. I would say read before you get for your library but remember we have lots o students who are being raised by grand parents and there are not that many books about this situation for teens. It's a good read. Also a very good TedTalk https://www.ted.com/talks/jarrett_j_krosoczka_how_a_boy_became_an_artist?language=en#t-561626
The Tiger At Midnight by Swati Teerdhala
I am so looking forward to book 2. It's a great story because of the sexual tension between the two but not overdone. A good balance between the two main characters who discover secretes between the two as they go looking for who really killed the uncle. Hurry up and publish book 2. It's a good read.
The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Yan Glaser

Factory Girl by Josanne La Valley
This book will haunt me for a very long time. It's based on true events set in a fictional account. This story is a must for everyone to read about how girls are endangered and abused in China because they are from a minority culture. They are basically slaves and trapped with no freedom what so ever. Overworked and not even paid. In fact they are charged for everything. THIS STORY WILL STAY WITH YOU. A must read. I'm adding this to my library.

This Is Not A Love Letter by Kim Purcell
This is a brilliant book. Sometimes hard to read because of the intense emotion which makes it brilliant. Jessie tells the story in a timeline of what happened, her boyfriend just disappears. No sign no clue. Lots of secrets come out from around town. It's an intense story. A good one

Braced by Alyson Gerber
As I was reading this story, it reminded me years ago when one of my friends in middle school had a brace. I really had no clue what she went through. I do know it looked uncomfortable. I think this book should be on shelves for students to either not feel like they are the only ones with braces or if they have friends who have a back brace to understand better what it is like to wear a brace and the emotions that go with it.

Shouting at the Rain by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
Trying to figure out life when you are young can be challenging. Delsie and Ronin are missing parents in their lives. They have people who love them but they are filled with so many emotions. Have you ever had young people that were filled with so many emotions that they may have a hard time processing the all? Read the book. It's good.
The Eldest Curses The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare & Wesley Chu
Cassandra Clare has partnered up with Wesley Chu to create this new series. It's entertaining and fun to read. Magnus is just a fun character with a heart of gold. Enjoy. Fine for high school to add.
Sherwood by Meagan Spooner
It retells the legend of Robin Hood but Miriam has stepped into the role. The conventions of being a woman and disguising herself as a an known to be dead was interesting. Good for personal libraries.
