The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris by Evie Woods is my new favorite book that takes place in France. It is truly a great story. A young woman moves to another country with a new culture and language to find herself. She makes friends, hot chocolate and falls in love to later feel betrayed. She becomes a connector to bringing people and history together over French pastries. And then there is the ghost. It's an excellent story. Enjoy.

Under the Surface by Diana Urban

Under the Surface takes place in Paris. As I listened to the story, I found the girls annoying and I might have left them under the city. But it does get more interesting at the end. The book is fine for any high school library.

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

Sarah's Key is a story of a tragic family story that took place in France. It is a good story, solid and filled with history. It's two stories in one. The past and the present as an American journalist living in Paris with her French husband, investigates the little talked about event of how Jewish people were treated and put in German custody and we know what happens next. It's a very good solid story. A good read.

Miss Morgan's Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles

Miss Morgan's Book Brigade is cast with all sorts of characters and in the lead is Miss Morgan. She's the kind of character you would love to have as a friend. The dual story line in different decades drives the story along and the ending is absolutely beautiful. Friendship forms in a small village in France. Soldiers, villagers and librarians make this a beautiful story. The audiobook also very good. Enjoy. It's a great read!

The Invisible Woman by Erika Robuck

 Wow!  An intense read.  How did the people at that time survived.  Go back in time and become part of the resistance.  Would you be able to survive? An excellent read.  

The Paris Dressmaker by Kristy Cambron

 This is a page turner, with great intensity.  Set in France, mostly in Paris, occupied by the Nazis as they loot and move artwork and barge into people's worlds, there are people who are forced to work with the Nazis. There are others who take advantage of the new system.  It's a battlefield of doing what ever you can to save your country.  What would you sacrifice to defeat the enemy?

The Last Musketeer Double Cross by Stuart Gibbs

I think this series of stories is great for any middle school library.  Add this to your collection.  A great guy's read.  Lots of action and adventure.  Enjoy.

How I Became A Spy by Deborah Hopkinson

Everything was a bit to pat in this story.  He meets the right people, they have the right skills.

It was alright.  It's fine for any library  Just not my favorite.  It wasn't believable for me.  

Love A La Mode by Stephanie Kate Strohm

Oh this is cute.  Put this one in your high school library.  It's darling.  Fun to read and the audio book is good as well.  Enjoy. 

And We’re Off by Dana Schwartz

I liked this story.  It's a mother daughter story.  It's a find out who you really are story.  It's a travel to Europe story.  It's fine for high school.  I'm thinking I would like to buy for my high school library.  Enjoy.  Audio book also very good.

The Last Musketeer by Stuart Gibbs

Oh you need to get this one for your elementary and middle school libraries.  Anything by Stuart Gibbs is a plus to add to your school library.  It's a fun read and you learn about old France.  I'm thinking of sharing this with my French teacher.  Go back in time, it's a good read.

White Bird by R. J. Palacio

R. J. Palacio can tell a story.  A grandmother tells her life story to her grandson.  Go back to occupied France.  Hide with the young girl as she misses her family and hides from dangerous people.  Perfect for any school library.

Code Name: Lise by Larry Loftis

An incredible woman who doesn't cave under pressure.  Brave and bold, charming and determined.  The atrocities of the Nazis during World War II are revealed as Odette's story is unfolded.  Not an easy read when it comes to the torture but the love and respect between her and fellow spy Peter Churchill is touching.  A true story and a must for any adult library.  The audio book also very good.

A beautiful multimedia artistic book that is up for CYRM 2020.  Add this to you school library.

Oh this is a very sweet story.  Romance and missed opportunities, choices in life and redemption.  It's a wonderful story.  Enjoy.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

It's a layer story with content that best suits adult reading.  Descriptively told and takes the reader on a journey through time and geography.  It's a good read.

And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini

I listened to the audio book and it was a rich layered story that traveled through time and countries.  How these people's lives entwined make this an impressive collection of stories threaded together. 

Dunkirk: The History Behind the Major Motion Picture by Joshua Levine

I'm getting this for the library.  I listened to the audiobook and was well done.  I haven't seen the movie as of yet.  The book fills in lots of information and personal stories.  It's an important read.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Go back in time and experience occupied France.  German soldiers make France a dangerous place to live.  Two sisters both have to be brave and save lives.  Risking their own lives.  It's an important read.  There are some mature difficult situations to read.  It should be in high school libraries.  Read.  You'll thank me later
