When Among Crows by Veronica Roth

When Among Crows by Veronica Roth comes from a Polish saying. It's a complex story that works beautifuly. I would say this is reading level for adults and not fitting into a high school library. I chose this book because I enjoy reading Roth's work and what a pretty cover. The voice actors did a great job. Lots of underworld characters and action. Love Baba Jaga. Enjoy.

This Savage Song by V. E. Schwab

Kate is one angry teen girl, she's smart and tough and will kill monsters. Her father is one of the leaders of the city. Her mother killed by monsters. August is a monster that plays violin and kills evil people. This Savage Song has lots of twists and turns. The audiobook also very good. Fine for high school libraries.

A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal

A Tempest of Tea was an interesting story. I liked the backstory on the three main characters. There are some surprises. The audiobook was good. I think this is a good book for public libraries.

The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh

Romance, danger and powerful blend together with secrets and topped with murder makes this a good story for young teens to enjoy.  Also there be vampires.  Enjoy.  Audio book also very good.

The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner

A blend of fairy tales and legends that may not be as commercial but still potent.  Set in a world of Jewish customs and culture.  Bits of history is woven into this enchanting story.  It's the coming of age story of young girls becoming women.  It's fine for any high school library and for adults as well. 

Ghosts of the Shadow Market: An Anthology of Tales

Backstories on various characters in a short story version written by multiple authors.  It's a good read.  On the image are several of the different stories.  These are just a sample of what to enjoy. 

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

This story really bring a blend of fantasy, folktales and scary eeriness alive in a dark Russian forest.  Always a dangerous life and more so for the womenfolk.  This story has all sorts of levels to it.  It works well.  It's a good read and the audio book brings it alive.  Enjoy.

A Hunter Series: Elite by Mercedes Lackey

I like this series and will get it for my high school.  Good plot, strong characters and interesting and engaging problems.  I predict that this book will be popular at my school.  It's a good read.  Enjoy.

Hunter by Mercedes Lackey

Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer and set in the future and you have a pretty good story.  I'm buying this for my school library.  I appreciate how smart the lead is in the story and doesn't use as much magic as others.  Also she has ethics.  You want to root for the good guys and figure out who the big bad is.  Enjoy.  Audio book is also good.

Insatiable By Meg Cabot

Meg Cabot can write for teens and for adults.  This one is for adults.  Not for high school libraries.  There's some sex in the story.  This story has wit, humor, romance, danger and great fight scenes.  It's a good read.

Chronicles of Nick: Infinity Sherrilyn Kenyon

Think Vladimer Tod meets zombies and demons.  It's a teen who is half human and half demon.  Nick is finding himself.  I should mention his mother has a heart of gold, and is a stripper.  His father is in jail.  Nick is the target of a group who is after him.  It's fine but I wouldn't buy for a high school library.

The Slayer Chronicles: First Kill by Heather Brewer

This is Joss's back story.  I should mention that there is abuse as part of the training both mental and emotional.  The Vladimir Tod series is very popular with students at my high school.  I'm not sure about this series.  It's a spin off of the Vladimir Todd series.  But the perspective is from the counter point of the slayer rather then the vampire.  The story does also fill in gaps left from the first series.  I suppose I would add it to the collection.  Joss does get beaten up quite a bit in his training to be a slayer and also a lot of vampires end up getting killed by the slayers.

the chronicles of Vladimer Tod: 12th Grade Kills by Heather Brewer

It's a good series and fine for the library but there are quite a few people and vampires who are killed. The mystery continues and Vlad must figure out who he can trust and enjoy life before he is put on trial to be killed.  The story was a a bit weak towards the later part but picks right back at the very end.

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Eleventh Grade Burns by Heather Brewer

Lots of surprise all through the book.  It's fine for any library.  Solid story and characters.  Great for guys to read.

It's a good series and teen boys will enjoy.  Fine for any library.  Enjoy.

This is a popular series at my school.  It's great for readers who enjoy quick stories.  Vlad is a good guy's read.  It's fine for any library.

The Spiritglass Charade: A stoker & Holmes Novel by Colleen Gleason

I'm looking forward to more in the series.  It's steam punk genre that is fun to read.  A good mystery with our two sleuths,  Mina Holmes, niece of Sherlock Holmes & Miss Stoker, sister of Bram Stoker and comes from a long line of killing vampires.  Lots of surprises to keep the story fresh.  Enjoy.

The Spiritglass Charade: A stoker & Holmes Novel by Colleen Gleason

This is a fun steam punk mystery.  It's solid.  Steam punk is a story set in Victorian times and is part fantasy and technology that wouldn't be normally found in the actual times.  Vampires and other supernatural beings are often found in the story.  This is fine for any library.  But steam punk is not for everyone, there needs to be a suspension of beliefs of regular story lines.

Eighth Grade Bites by Heather Brewer

This is a popular book with the boys at my high school.  Especially non-readers.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

It's a great story with orphans, and danger and who do you trust moments.  It's also questioning who you really love and who you are really attracted to. Simon and Basil finally face how they really feel. While they are figuring out how Basil's mother really died.  It's a great story, solid characters, written well.  I liked the book a lot.
