Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins is one intense story that prequals the original Hunger Games. A great series. You get Haymish's back story. Fine for any high school library.

Aisle Nine by Ian X. Cho

Aisle Nine by Ian X. Cho I'm not wild about this book. Lots of F*bombs. THe plot line is not mainstream. I would pass on this one for my library, except it is one of 2026 Battle of the Books in my area.

James by Percival Everett

James is a smart story that represents Jim from Huckleberry Finn. Jim is a smart man who is running away from slavery. Huck teams up with Jim by chance and together travel meeting dangerous people and dangerous situations. Percival Everett knows how to write a story. This is a good one. The audio book also very good.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

The Road is a dark story of a father and his young son. He is teaching his son to survive. The world is destroyed and resources are found by scavenging. One sweet moment is the father visits his boyhood home. They must keep moving and avoiding people. No one is safe.

Close Knit by Jenny Colgan

Close Knit by Jenny Colgan is a lovely book to enjoy if you enjoy adventures in Scotland. I enjoy Jenny Colgan stories. She brings characters to life.

Under the Surface by Diana Urban

Under the Surface takes place in Paris. As I listened to the story, I found the girls annoying and I might have left them under the city. But it does get more interesting at the end. The book is fine for any high school library.

Orphans of the Storm by Celia Imrie

Orphans of the Storm involves the build up of the sinking of the Titanic, two little French boys are kidnapped by their dangerous father, right after a divorce. He's dangerous. The mother is barely 21, she's a seamstress who built up the buisness with her husband, now ex. He's a master manipulator. Go on a journey from the begining of a young woman filled with dreams to a mother believing her children and died on a ship until fate brings her new hope. The audiobook also very good.

The Library of Legends by Janie Chang

The Library of Legends is a slow book that builds up to an amazing story. I appreciate how the author tied up two stories, the one placed in China, in the 1930s when Japan invaded China, and a legend of a star who fell in love with a prince. It's a great story and listening to the audiobook is worth a go. Enjoy.

One Was Lost by Natalie D. Richards

One Was Lost is a great suspenceful story that is fine for high school library. It's a good read and a good audiobook. The students wake up and realized that they have been drugged, their cell phones have been broken and their teacher is in a coma. More events put them in dangerous trouble. They have no idea who is stalking them and tormenting them. A good read.

She's Gone by David Bell

She's Gone is a thriller and murder mystery. I listened to this story and it's fine for high school libraries. Is the boyfriend guilty or set up? Who can he trust? Can we trust him? Read and fine out. It's a good read.

Heart of the Samurai by Margi Preus

A great read and audiobook. Losely based on a true person, Heart of the Samurai is a simple book that tells one man's story. Imagine leaving your county by accident and having to learn a new language and culture. Adventure and learning makes this young man extrodinary. A good read. Enjoy and fine for any school library.

Young Fredle by Cynthia Voigt

This is a sweet story about a mouse who learns to survive. We are also reaquainted with two dogs from the first story. Young Fredle is open to new opportunities as he learns how to survive. It's a good read and audiobook. Fine for any children's library.

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

Sarah's Key is a story of a tragic family story that took place in France. It is a good story, solid and filled with history. It's two stories in one. The past and the present as an American journalist living in Paris with her French husband, investigates the little talked about event of how Jewish people were treated and put in German custody and we know what happens next. It's a very good solid story. A good read.

This Savage Song by V. E. Schwab

Kate is one angry teen girl, she's smart and tough and will kill monsters. Her father is one of the leaders of the city. Her mother killed by monsters. August is a monster that plays violin and kills evil people. This Savage Song has lots of twists and turns. The audiobook also very good. Fine for high school libraries.

Five Survived by Holly Jackson

Five Survived is a very suspensefull story. The audiobook is also a great listen. Secrets inside of secrets drives this story as the RV is driven accidentally in to a random road. But it's all a set up. Who set it up? Why? How do teens react when they are trapped with a dangerous sniper keeps controlling their fate. A good read and perfect for high school libraries. Enjoy.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

 

Wow, what a great prequel to the Hunger Games series.  Suzanne Collins is a talented writer.  The audio book was also very good.  The characters are strong as well as the story line.  I am going to have to get this one for my school library.  Enjoy.

The Woods Are Always Watching by Stephanie Perkins

 The two friends think they are ready for this trip but this is their first time hiking/camping.  They ignore all sorts of problems.  One girl fears bears and serial murderers and bears.  Yep those are in the book. What the author forgot was poisonous snakes.  The girls go off trail thinking they are on trail.  They also have a whiney fight.  After the body count starts adding up, the girls find their survival spirit.  Over all, I didn't like the story/plot/characters.  I'm passing on this one.

The Red Zone An Earthquake Story by Silvia Vecchini

A graphic novel inspired by events of an earthquake in Italy.  This is about survival, hope and grief and rebuilding.  Fine from any school library.
 

The Woman with the Blue Star by Pam Jenoff

 It's a good story but it felt a bit pat.  Overall I recommend this.  It would even be fine for high school students.
