The Whisperwood Legacy by Jo Schulte I could see this being made in to a Disney Plus series. IT's good and fine to add to any high school library. A bit Gothic, Dark and dangerous. Not a slasher story but it feels like the potential to be deadly. It's a good read.

The Black Girl Survives in This One is a very smart collection of short stories. I plan on adding this one to my high school library. A good read. Enjoy.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

The Road is a dark story of a father and his young son. He is teaching his son to survive. The world is destroyed and resources are found by scavenging. One sweet moment is the father visits his boyhood home. They must keep moving and avoiding people. No one is safe.

Under the Surface by Diana Urban

Under the Surface takes place in Paris. As I listened to the story, I found the girls annoying and I might have left them under the city. But it does get more interesting at the end. The book is fine for any high school library.

MurderFunding by Gretchen McNeil

Murderfunding is the second book in the series. It's an intense book of survival. The action really kicks in about the middle of the book as the author starts out with back stories. But worth the wait. There is some violence and murder and the body count adds up. I liked the story but not sure if I would have in my school library. Better for public libraries.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson

 This final part is a nail bitter.  An excellent read of a young woman who is constantly being threaten and takes matters in to her own hands.  She does some things that are wrong and sets up a boy who has seriously hurt people and got away with it.  But in doing so she encounters a serial killer.  It's pretty intense.  A good read.

The Initial Insult by Mindy McGinnis

 Look for all the Easter eggs on this one referencing Poe, even the story line is borrowed from Poe.

An interesting story.  A part 2 will be coming out.  Will I add to my high school library shelves?  Probably not.  

What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo

 I had a hard time trying to finish this book.  It was way to strange for me.  Not for my high school library.  I did finish but it was just a spiral of a story line that curled into itself.  The story felt stuck.

The Companion by Katie Alender

 This is one creepy story.  A young innocent teen has all the clues to warn her of danger.  But she is too trusting.  She's asking the right questions but doesn't see that she too is in a dangerous situation.  It's a entertaining story.  Good but a bit predictable.  Fine for any high school library.

Clown in the Cornfield by Adam Cesare

 Every once in a while, a like a good thriller.  This is one right out of the movies and other clown stories.  It's a good one.  There a hints of paranormal but it's not what you think.  Add this one to your high school library.  Note:  there's not really paranormal but the book plays with your mind 

A Midsummer Night’s Scream by R. L. Stine

 At first, I was annoyed by the vapid teens but then the thriller part kicked in and I was hooked.  It follows all the tenants of a traditional horror teen movie.  Not boring at all.  A good build up of suspense.  Enjoy.  Fine for any school library.

His Hideous Heart edited by Dahlia Adler

If you are a fan of Edgar Allan Poe, you'll enjoy these rewrites inspired by his short stories.  The last half of the book are the 13 stories by Poe that inspire the stories.  And the audio book is a good read.  Enjoy.  I would like to get for my high school library.  Poe is a very popular author.

Stalking Jack the Ripper Capturing The Devil by Kerri Maniscalco

One sexy murder mystery.  The series is great.  Rather Gothic tone.  Fine for teens but there is one or two mature scenes.   Lots of build up in rising action to one suspenseful conclusion.

Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

I'm getting this one for my high school library.  Its a good thriller.  Think Ghosts  Busters at a teen level.  Match that with male version of Buffy the Vampire Killer (only this would be ghosts) I see this as a popular book.  Audio book also good.  Enjoy 

Hello Neighbor Bad Blood by Carly Anne West

This is a great horror story for older elementary and middle school students.  I do recommend this book, I think the series will appeal to students.  There is enough tension in the story to make it a mystery.  Enjoy.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Daughter of Chaos by Sarah Rees Brennan

This is not the cute Sabrina, TV series.  It may have some of the same characters from the show but this is a very dark version of the story.  Much more closer to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, only with witches.  I'm going to pass on getting this for my library. 

The Institute by Stephen King

Stephen King can tell a story.  Think Fire Starter meets Dr. Mengel.  It's a good story.  The audio book also good.  Fine for high school libraries.

Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall

Think Blair Witch project meets any super scary haunted house movie you have ever seen.  It is a very strange story that leaves you in the dark.  Quite literally, leaves you in the dark.  I am thinking about getting for my high school students who like horror.  Audio book also very good.

The Emperor of Any Place by Tim Wynne-Jones

This is one incredible story that was hard to put down.  The ghosts.  The enemies working together.  and the family secrets.  Told in two timelines, this story is captivating.  I'm getting it for my high school library.  It's an incredible read.

Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand

This is a thriller that is also a page turner.  It's creepy and bloody.  Think Friday the 13th horror movies meets Nightmare on Elm Street with a different type of nightmares.  There is a dark entity that is evil and feeds off of young girls by killing them.  To get these victims, he has a family of women who bring these victims to him.  It's a dark story that is really creepy.  It's also fine for high school libraries.  You feel for each of the three key girls in the story.  The author does a good job of helping us understand each girl.
