49 Days by Agnes Lee

An insight into a Buddhist belief of the journey that the dead will take. The book does a good job illustrating about the death of a Korean-American girl and how her family and friends miss her.

The Forest of Stolen Girls by June Hur

 

This may not be for mainstream teen readers.  It has a slow and steady pace with lots of flashbacks.  Go back to a different time in Korea.  Girls are disappearing, and no one knows what is going on.  A masked man threatens those who venture in to the forest.  Two sisters experience something that happened when they were very young.  A good read but for I would say for serious readers.

I’ll Be The One by Lyla Lee

 I enjoyed this story for Young Adult readers.  I learned a bit about Korean Culture as well.  I had to look up Korean Spa.  It's a good story and fine for older teens.  A cute meet story with Sky liking both girls and boys.  She also is affected by her mother's talk about how being thin is important.  Enjoy.

When You Trap A Tiger by Tae Keller

I liked this book.  It brings Korean culture to life in America.  The family has lost their father to an accident.  Now their grandmother is dying.  It is a good read.  

Pippa Park Raises Her Game by Erin Yun

I liked the story and it is fine for any elementary and middle school library.  It's a little bit predictable.   You got a like Pippa and cringe when she digs herself in to trouble.  She's a good kid trying to make her world work.  I also like that it is an opportunity to learn more about the Korean culture.  It's a good read.  Enjoy.

Frankly in Love by David Yoon

This is a good book.  I stuck with the book it was worth it.  Frank's parents are from Korea and have their biases towards other non-Korean people.  Frank learns a lot about life and his parents too.  It's a good story.  I would get for my high school.

Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo

If you love Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn, you'll love this.  It's a fun light read.  Enjoy.  Fine for any school library. 

29 Dates by Melissa De La Cruz

It's cute.  I have students ask me for romance novels for teen.  This will work.  I'll get it for my library.  It's a bit of insight in Korean culture as well. 

A thousand Miles to Freedom: My Escape from North Korea by Eunsun Kim

This is a must read.  North Korea is so currently in the news.  Do we really know what is going on in this off limits country?  Read about Eunsun Kim's escape from North Korea.  It's a dangerous journey that many have taken and died, tortured and the fortunate able to make it to a safe country.  This is a must read!
