Within These Wicked Walls give the feel of Jane Eyre just a little bit. Paranormal beings, murders, ammulents and more plus a bit of romance. Did I like the story? No, it was dark and gloomy. Wasn't my cup of tea.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

OMG, this is one great crazy Gothic story. Paranormal and creepy.  Definitely adult.  Well crafted.  Reminds me of House of Usher by Poe meets Stephen King.  It's a good read if you like horror.  Not what I expected.  Audio book a good listen.

His Hideous Heart edited by Dahlia Adler

If you are a fan of Edgar Allan Poe, you'll enjoy these rewrites inspired by his short stories.  The last half of the book are the 13 stories by Poe that inspire the stories.  And the audio book is a good read.  Enjoy.  I would like to get for my high school library.  Poe is a very popular author.

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten white

This is the retelling of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.  This retelling is dark and told in the perspective of a young girl who grows up with Victor Frankenstein.  She must be charming and make herself valuable to the family so she can stay.  She must survive in any way she can.  All the while, facing all that she loves is taken away from her one way or another.  Victor Frankenstein is a young boy who is deeply fascinated with the death.  How far will Victor go to achieve his desire?  Watch these two grow up and navigate through darkness to become dangerous young adults. 

House of Furies Court of Shadow by Madeleine Roux

I like Madeleine Roux work.  This will be added to my shopping list for library books for my high school library.  A Gothic Horror story that will entertain.  Audio book also very good.  Enjoy. 

The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd

This is a story based on H. G. Well's classic : The Island of Dr. Moreau.  This comes from the perspective of the daughter of the mad scientist.  It's a good Gothic thriller and makes a good companion to the classic.  Enjoy.  Fine for any library.  Good about cloning and gene splicing.  I would recommend it for a science class such as biology.

To Hold The Bridge by Garth Nix

If you are a big fan of Garth Nix, enjoy these short stories.  There is a variety of stories of various genres.  Great for any Garth Nix reader's library.

The Devil and His Boy by Anthony Horowitz

Anthony Horowitz is successful of blending history, mystery and a good story.

Die for Me by Amy Plum

This is book one of a series I read backwards.  Lots of romance.  Lots of romance but appropriate for teens.  Tragedy sends two teen sisters to Paris to live with their grandparents.  Vincent becomes a very interesting distraction to one of the sisters.

The story moves at a very nice smooth tempo.

Death Cloud by Andrew Lane

Smartly written.  If you like a good mystery, give this a go.  Sherlock has his first adventure of solving a mystery.  He doesn't do it by himself, he has an American tutor who is a tracker/detective and learns about observing and hiding in plain sight.  The villain is an evil mastermind and challenges Sherlock to an amazing sword fight.  It's a good read.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

This one sexy book.  I read it years ago and most of the series.  Really liked it.  Gemma grows to be a strong character.  There are some other strong characters as well.  It takes place in Victorian British rule.  India and then England.  Magic and sorcery makes this story pretty interesting.  If you like gothic novels, here you go.
