Song for a Whale by Lynne Kelly

Song for a Whale by Lynn Kelly is a great book for middle school students. The author has background experience interpreting for hearing impaired students. She also did some research on an actual hybrid whale that is known as the loneliest whale because of it's song is a different frequency then regular whales. The audiobook is also good. Enjoy.

Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom

I am getting this for my high school library.  The main character is blind.  She hasn't given herself time to grieve after her father dies suddenly.  Her world changes when her cousins and aunt moves into her house.  And her former friend also shows up to her high school,  she hasn't talked to him since she was 13 years old after a very hurtful event happened.  She has a lot to learn as she starts dating and running for the track team.  It's a good read.

Power Up Your Incredible, Spectacular, Supernova Body by Fishman & Greenberg

Picture book about how cool our body is.  A great way to start a unit or do a lit circle for young people.  Fine for any school library for young people.

Aven Green Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling

This was a pleasant surprise.  I am looking forward to reading the first one.  You don't need to read the first one, the book recaps a bit of what happened before.  I like Evan Green.  She's a girl who's figuring out high school but with more of a challenge because she was born with out arms.  There's a mean boy who does hurtful things and there are horses, lamas and elderly.  Also looking for her father's family, since she's adopted.  Perfect for any school library.  worth it!  Audio book also good.

Rescue & Jessica A Life Changing Friendship by Kensky, Downes and Magoon

I am getting this book for my high school library for a few reasons.  It's done beautifully and based on a true story.  Also shows Jessica's determination to get back on track with living her fullest life.  Shows her going through physical therapy.  If you've ever gone through PT you know it's serious work.  I also like that the book shows the dog trainer teaching the dog how to help people with special needs.  A must for any school library.

Emmanuel’s Dream by Laurie Ann Thompson & Sean Qualls

Anther true story, set in Ghana about Emmanuel who has one good leg.  He bikes across Ghana, his home country while advocating for disable people in his country.  It's a good and important read.

We’re all wonders by R. J. Palacio

This picture book conveys a powerful message about accepting people, especially if they are designed a bit different physically.  It's about feelings and dreams and makes a bridge to connect us with others.  A must for any library.

I Funny I funny TV by James Patterson

I liked this book.  I listened to the audio book and I actually liked it more then the Wimpy Kids Diary.
I think it's a great book for middle school libraries.  Good messages and entertaining.  A good guy's read.  Enjoy.

Say what You Will by Cammie McGovern

This is a good book to read.  It's right up there with Fault in Our Stars, John Green, Sarah Dessen and other great contemporary stories about teens.  I'm getting this for my library.  Heads up, there is some teen drinking in the story.  Good Story.

Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles

I liked this book.  There is some sex and a few f*bombs and drinking but there is also facing truths and feelings.  I love the grandmotherly character in the story.  I feel the book is solid and would be fine for  a high school library.  Enjoy.

Reign of Shadows by Sophie Jordan

This book I enjoyed.  I think it would be fine any high school library.  It's a apocalyptic  medieval story.  The characters are strong, the story plot solid and the tempo of the story flows well.  Enjoy.

Blind: By Rachel DeWoskin

It's an okay story.  There are a few Fbombs and discussions about teen sex.  Not sure if I'd put in the library.  I would say read it first and have a conversation with students before they check it out.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

It's a great story.  Students can handle the book but it's not for a high school library.  Perfect for personal libraries and public libraries.  It's a solid story.  Worth the read! It's the kind of story that stays with you long after you finish reading it.

When We Wake: While We Run by Karen Healey

When We Wake is book 1 and was excellent.  Book 2 is just as suspenseful. The first part is the torture of our two young love birds who tried to make the world a safe place.  Australia and the rest of the world is in an ecological disaster and resources are limited.  Now government and military are involved in a dangerous and deadly venture.  The girl who was brought back to life after over 100 years ago is wanted by everyone.  This part of the story is told by Abdi who really just wants to go back to Somalia.
It's an intensely good read.  Enjoy!  There is some violence and torture.  I think I am now a Karen Healey fan.  She's from New Zealand.  I've been to New Zealand & Australia and would go back in a flash. It's great to read stories from authors from all over the world.

The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

Excellent story.  Should be in all libraries.  It's the story of family abuse, anger, war and history.  It's a story of healing.  If you've read Good Night Mr. Tom and loved that story, then you'll love this one too.

Alchemy and Meggy Swann by Karen Cushman

If you are a fan of Karen Cushman, then you'll enjoy this story.  It's a different time in the Elizabethan world.  Meggy isn't perfect, she's an angry, hurt girl who has two damaged legs from her birth and needs walking sticks to  help her walk.  Feeling unloved and neglected, she finds out she has made more friends then she thought.  For a treat, listen to the audio  version.  Perfect for any library.

Boston Jane: An Adventure by Jennifer l. Holm

Great story and worthy of all libraries.  It's not easy being a lady in the wilderness.  Well crafted and plucky.  A chance to meet a pioneer girl of 16 years of age who learns to become a woman.

The Julian Chapter by R. J. Palacio

Read Wonder and then read this story. Well done and strong characters.  There are always more sides to the story.  Perfect to add to any library at any grade level.  Read up,  you'll thank me later.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

This is a page turner.  Great for any kind of teen library.  Looking forward to book 2.  Strong characters and strong plot.  Enjoy
