As a teacher-librarian, I have the opportunity to read young adult books to share with my students. The list that I have provided will have an overview of the book and personal comments. They are on a Book-mercial style image to get a taste of the essence of the book.

Enchantee by Gita Trelease
This historical fantasy fiction is loaded with danger and romance. Infused with magic, a dress can redesign it's self once it's been feed three drops of blood. A transformation that can be deadly. Fine for any high school library.
The Brilliant Death By Amy Rose Capetta
Junior Library Guild sent me this book. It has a lot going on it plus some romance. A gender fluid Cielo has charmed the heart of Teodora. Magic and mischief happens when poisoning is involved. It's a different book and I am adding to the library collection.
Second Chance Cat No Escape Claws by Sofie Ryan
I enjoy a good antiquing shopping opportunity and treasure hunting and also a good murder mystery.
Add this to your reading list if you would like to enjoy an easy read.
Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
At first I didn't like this book, but it grew on me ... a little bit. This was my second attempt at reading this book and I stuck with it till the end. It is told in multiple perspectives and it is a bit muddled. There is drinking and reference to sex and also a bully scene which bothered me and it felt a bit glossed over, the victims didn't seem to bothered by it. Just accepted it and moved on to be with the girls that helped them out. I am going to pass on adding this to my high school library.

Library Tutorial Covering Paperback
This is a tutorial for my students to learn to cover paperback books. We used time lapse photography to create this short clip.
Maybe A Fox by Appelt & McGhee
This book is about grief and the relationship of sisters. The book would be fine for older elementary and middle school. A father is looking for his lost daughter but never finds the body. The remaining sister must deal with going to school after the mysterious death of the sister. It's okay. Not my favorite but it does have a mystical element to it.

The Noisy Paint Box by Rosenstock & Grandpre
Charming illustrations and the story of a talented painter ahead of his time makes this a very special book. If you enjoy art this book is for you.
Barbed Wire Baseball by Moss & Shimizu
True story written into a beautiful picture book. What would you do if you were ripped from your home and unfairly put in an internment camp with guards and no freedom? An inspired story indeed.

Family problems shadow both teens. Maia has sever depression and Billy is in a group home. They are both looking for something and run away. One towards a mother who is absent in her life. The other away from all the hurt the rejection of his grandparents after his mother was murdered by his father. Together they find something they hadn't expected. Fine for any high school library.
Making Bombs For Hitler by Marsha Skrypuch
Wow, this is one important story to add to a school library. It is a fictional account based on interviews and other research of how people stolen from other countries were forced as slaves for the Nazis. The story is told in the eyes of a young girl of 11 or so and how she had to endure to survive. The horrors of what happened are unfathomable. The story continues as the stolen people who survived and become DP or displaced people. It is fine for any school library. Please read.

Bruce Be Quiet by Ryan T. Higgins
You have to read the Bruce series. It's this grumpy old bear, his adopted geese and some crazy mice.
This is the Mice having their own story. Bruce does make a cameo appearance. I would love to meet the illustrator/author and ask him what the inspiration of this book was. Enjoy.

Mandela’s Way by Richard Stengel
There are leaders and then there are leaders. Mandela was a leader from when he was sent to live with his tribal chief. He wasn't perfect but he was humble and had endured so much. Fighting for his people, to end apartheid. Locked up for years and later freed to become a world leader, how was he as a leader? Read and find out. It's a good book.

Villains Mother Knows Best by Serena Valentino
There are more backstories about characteres and this is one of them. Based on Tangle by Disney, read Mother Gothel's back story from when she was a young girl with her sisters till she has a baby she raises to a young woman who will be the doom of her. I wasn't to impressed with the story. It's okay but I'll pass on purchasing. It feels like something missing.

Shout by Laurie Halse Anderson
This story has many mature themes with in the life story of the author. What a life! The abuse and hard life that the author had gives voice to what others have had encountered. I am not sure if it's the best fit for high school library. I would say read it. It is an important book. If I had a daughter (or son) I would have them read it and then have a conversation about the life events of the author.
Nevermore The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend
If you are a fan of Harry Potter, you'll enjoy this series. A girl is cursed from birth because of the day she was born. A magical man saves her and takes her to a whole new world. But there is a secret villain, one who has great powers. Enjoy.
Ravenspire The Blood Spell by C. J. Redwine
I love legends and fairy tales. It's a clever book. The cover shows a pumpkin and it turns out it's a modern invention of Cinderella but so much better. The story has been reworked. The relationship between the prince and Blue grow and evolve. And of course there's magic. It's a great read. I think it is my favorite in the series so far. Each book is a stand alone. This is on my shopping list for my high school library. Enjoy.
29 Dates by Melissa De La Cruz
It's cute. I have students ask me for romance novels for teen. This will work. I'll get it for my library. It's a bit of insight in Korean culture as well.
Christmas A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig
This book is fine for seasonal enjoyment. Obviously for Christmas time. I think it works well in public libraries and private libraries. It was fine but didn't wow me.
Farm to Fork Mystery Who Moved My Goat Cheese? By Lynn Cahoon
I like Lynn Cahoon and have read other series by her. It reminded me of when I had baby goats as a kid and chickens too. It's a good murder mystery. Add this to your reading list.

Today is International Woman's Day. This book fits in perfectly for today. Rasmira is a smart clever girl who plans and trains for what she wants or needs to happen to make her community better. It's a smart book and I plan to order for my high school library.

Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte
I loved this book for a number of reasons. It's a stand alone not a series and there are surprises that I didn't see coming. I usually see the surprises in the story and then one got me. I love the main character in the story. I'm getting this for my high school library. Murder, mayhem and politics with power grabs. It's a great story. Enjoy.

A Sudden Light by Garth Stein
Family dysfunction at its finest. Wait till you get to the end! Seen through the eyes of Trevor, who only wants his parents to get back together and be a family again, the old world of his grand and great grand parents past is an eye opener. His aunt is a women who is a mystery, which he is figuring out, his father is blind to facts that are before him and his grandfather is not all together there. And then there is the ghost of his great uncle who also had secrets and a desire to have some thing set straight and taken care of in honor of a lost love. This is an adult book not a YA book. I chose this book because I wanted to read more of Garth Stein's work after reading The Art of Racing in the Rain and the YA version of Racing in the Rain.

Bridge of Clay by Markus Zusak
It's marketed as Young Adult, and that may be but I think it for adults as well. I don't think I'll get for my high school library. It's good and read it but I don't think it will be widely popular. It's told in different flashbacks by the narrator, one of the brothers. The story meanders through out time, not in a straight time line. It's a fine book and the handling of grief done by the boys and their father and later another death is built around the story. It reminds me of Outsiders meets Party of Five.
It’s Not Like It’s A Secret by Misa Sugiura
I think this book is fine for teens. I think it can be a challenge being a teen with all sorts of feelings and family drama bouncing around inside one. I would say read first.
We Set The Dark On Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia
This is a mix of The Handmaids Tale and Matched series. It is one sexy book. Turns out Dani and wife number 2 are both attracted to each other. I think this is fine for a personal library but I think maybe for public library, you should read and make your own informed choice.
Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell
It's a modern retelling of the story Peter Pan with a whole different perspective. It's fine for any high school library.
On the Come up by Angie Thomas
This is the second book that I have read by the author. I liked it because it shows how words have power either for good or for bad. Bri learns a lot about her family. Her mother is a former drug addict who has worked hard and continues to work hard to be clean and take care of her family. Her father's parents and her mother don't always get along. Her aunt is a drug dealer and also a dangerous and violent. It's a good story and fine for any high school libraries.
