The Last Apprentice The Lure of the Dead by Joseph Delaney

 I love this series.  It's like Lord of the Rings for kids.  In this series we watch a boy grow into a young man learning to fight evil.  He has learned much from his teacher and together with extra people they fight a dark enemy.  An excellent read.
