Jake Ransom and the Howling Sphinx by James Rollins

This is a fun read for kids who like adventure and time travel.  I haven't read book 1 yet.  It was easy to catch on and the story reads smoothly.  It's engaging.

Atlantis Rising by T. A. Barron

Save your money on this one.  The only thing good about it is the cover art.  It is painful to read.  Very simplistic.  Too simplistic.  It has everything and the kitchen sink.  A good editor should have done their job and get rid of the nonsense that was involved with this story.  It's a ridiculous story line and so far fetched it goes beyond suspended belief.  Again, save your money and even more important your time.  There are far better fantasy books out there.

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

This book has it all, adventure, danger, romance, mystery and magic.  Must read the first book to get the second.  Looking forward to the third.  Maggie Stiefvater has a style of writing that rings true and yet goes beyond incredible story telling.  If you liked her Shiver series, then this is way better.  Enjoy, and you will!

A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly

The writing of this story is a pleasure to read.  The words are crafted to spin a story as well as a picture of life up north.  This is a book you will want in your library.  A literary master piece.

The Sight by Judy Blundell

The writing style reflects and honesty of a teen who has lost her mother and has the gift of psychic ability that sometimes reveals people's secrets.  The raw shock of losing her mother, living with her very strict grandparents and now shuffled off to her aunt, she's disengaged.  But that changes when a friend of her's has disappeared.

The writing is good and the story line works.  I recommend for teen libraries.

HIgh TIde by Jude Deveraux

This is just a fun adult romance novel.  Mystery and danger with a touch of romance.  A fun read for the summer time.

Born of Illusion by Teri Brown

Go back to the 1920's and the bright lights of Broadway.  But once Anna leave the bright lights, danger shadows her as jealousy and lies reveal a dark world in psychic research.

Split by Swati Avasthi

This is not an easy story to read.  It is well written.  It is also painful to read.  I must say it is also an important story to read.  About the life of being physically abused and how it can easily switch to becoming the abuser.  This story goes deep.  You travel into the emotions of being bottled up.  The lies to hide the disfunction.  And even when you do escape, you never really do.  This is a must for any library.

Enders by Lissa Price

Things are what they seem and Callie finds out she's been lied to.  Different dangerous groups are out to capture Callie because the special chip in her head can make her a powerful assassin.  Callie has no one to run to and she's trying to keep her younger brother safe.

Cress by Marissa Meyer

This is such a fun series to read.  If you like fairy tales, you'll recognize that Cress is the retelling of a sci-fi of Rapunzel. The adventure continues.  This story will keep you entertained.

Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike

Kimberlee is not a nice person and everyone at school hates her.  With good reason.  Her life unfolds as newcomer Jeff helps her return items that she stole.  Maybe if he helps her, she can move on.

The Other Normals by Ned Vizzini

If you like Dungeons and Dragons, this is the book for you.  A geeky guy with the love of a creative story is sent of to camp to be with other teens and finds a world of different creatures with their own problems.  Fun read.

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

It's sci-fi, fairytales, romance and adventure mixed up all together to make it a very entertaining read.  I'm enjoying the series.  Looking forward to the next installment.

Summer and the City by Candace Bushnell

The only thing that really has going for it is the cover art.  I was not impressed.  The main character is shallow and immature.  Also lies to get what she wants.  Not impressed with the story line.  Save your money on this one.

Keeping the Castle by Patrice Kindl

Similar to Jane Austen novels but written for teens.  It's a fun read.  Lighthearted and loaded with romance.

The Shadow Throne by Jennifer A Nielsen

Forget Game of Thrones, Read this series.  I have high school students who couldn't wait for the last installment of the series.  Heck, I couldn't wait for the final book.  It's smart, funny and full of adventure.  A good guy or gal read.
