This is history and literary blended together. Wow, Alice Hoffman knows how to write a poignant story. The layers of depth for each character makes you really connect to each one. The story builds. The inspiration of the story is a real event. Go back in time and entwine your life with these group of peoples. And understand a different world and time. There is a lot of violence but consider the times. And then maybe compare the times of the past and perhaps it's not that far from our current time. It's worth the read.
