Stranger Than Fanfiction by Chris Colfer

I loved this story.  The audiobook read by Chris Colfer is terrific.  Would I buy for the high school library, I'm not sure.  There is some drinking and partying as four seniors take a road trip right after high school.  Things are not as what they seem.  Maybe I'll buy if for the high school library.  It's a good read.  Chris Colfer can write a story.

Hamish Macbeth Death of a Chimney Sweep by M. C. Beaton

This is a smart clever murder mystery.  If you like a good murder mystery then this is a great series to enjoy.

Hamish Macbeth: Death of a Valentine by M. C. Beaton

This is a stellar murder mystery.  Smart and even funny,  Think Mayberry goes to the Scotland Highlands.  It's a great read.  Enjoy!

Newsoul: Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

Anna is special and dangerous.  Jodi Meadows creates a pretty interesting world.  Fine for any high school library.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

Science fiction.  Think Orphan Black meets Cloud Atlas more like the TV show Sliders (A very good show except for the last season).  Imagine visiting another dimension and take over your double's body.

It's an adventure.  It's a mystery.  A little sex but very tame.  Fine for any high school library.

Inventor’s Secret Saga: The Turncoat’s Gambit By Andrea Cremer

Steampunk meets history meets alternate universe.  It's fine for the library.  Oh sprinkle a little romance.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This is a pretty special book.  More for adults .... like an adult Wizard of Oz, or Harry Potter.  A world inside a world.  Fantasy, magic and love.  It's a good book.  More for older readers but fine for teens to read.  It's well written.

Roseblood by A. G. Howard

It's the story of the Phantom of the Opera continued in a modern world of cell phones, airplanes and yet the magic is still lingering.  It's a pretty interesting story.  If you are a fan of Phantom of the Opera, it parallels the original story with a fresh approach.  Fine for any high school library but may not be for everyone.  If you have a school of performing arts then this book will fit right in.

The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller

This book is fine for high school libraries.  The theme is reincarnation and two young men who have had  a connection with Haven.  One good and one bad.  Haven has to remember and put it together who she can trust.  It's a pretty good story.  Enjoy.

The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

Fine for high school library.  A young girl finds her inner strength as she faces all sorts of trouble.  She also has the ability to bring the dead back.  And that's a whole bunch of other problems.  Enjoy.  Junior Library Guild sent this in their monthly subscription.

Kate Shackleton: Murder int the Afternoon by Frances Brody

I love a good mystery.  It's not a cutesy mystery, more of a serious mystery but still a quick read.  It's a good read.  Fine for any high school library but I think it would be better for personal or public libraries.  Enjoy.

The Sacketts: Sackett’s Land by Louis L’Amour

It's historical fiction of a struggle for survival, learning who you can trust and thinking on your feet.  It's a good read.

Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan

What a lovely story this is.  It's a sweet story that makes me to want to move to Cornwall.  Okay, the Poldark series with Actor Adrian is another factor.  Also, when I was in Scotland, at the Hebrides, I saw my first wild puffins.  I loved this story.  And who doesn't want to live in a light house.  It's a sweet story.  Not for high school libraries but fine for anyone who wants to read.  Enjoy.

A girl of Fire and Thrones: The King’s Guard by Rae carson

You know sometimes when the day is rough, it's nice to have a novella to take you away to a different world.  Rae Carson knows how to tell an adventure story.  This one works.  It's a good read and fine for any high school library.  Enjoy the novella.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns Story: The Shattered Mountain by Rae Carson

This is a novella that ties in perfectly with the main series.  You meet Mara and learn her backstory.  She's a brave young17 year old girl who is put in an impossible position to take care of 11 young people.  It's a great read.  It's a novella.  Fine for any library collection for teens.  Enjoy.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

There is a certain elegance to this book when you read it or listen to it in audio book.  It's adventure, it's old world, it's romance and it's danger.  Secrets to be revealed and life to be lived are all woven in to this story.  I liked it.  Well done.  Fine for any high school library.  Enjoy.

The Girl from Everywhere: The Ship Beyond Time By Heidi Heilig

It's not easy to write a time traveling story, unless it's Dr. Who but this book works.  It's different but it's good.  What would you do for love?  The story is getting better.  It's a good read. Sometimes it gets a little confusing but it's good.  Fine for any high school library.

Taken: Stolen By Erin Bowman

It's a short novella that launches this series.  Life is harsh and short in this small community.  There is an uncertainty that looms over the village.  There is no escape.  There is a mysterious stealing of young people to never return.  It's a good start.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes By Scott Cawthon & Ira Breed-Wrisley

Oh this is a good thriller.  Fine for high school students.  Guess I'll have to get it for my high school library.  This is based on a video game.  I have not seen this game but the book is a page turner.  Craftily written and builds suspense.  Dialogue works, characters work and creepy factor is right on.  Well played.  Hard to put down.  Enjoy.

Fire and THorn series: The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson

I've just started this series and listening to it as I drive around.  It's a good listen as a well as a solid story.  Book 2 is just as good as book first.   Lots of action and power.  It's fine for any high school library.  Enjoy.

I really like this series.  It's adventure, it's a bit romance, it's a bit Spanish and it's a lot about coming into  to your own power.  It's a good for high school.  Enjoy.

I am liking this fantasy series.  A love triangle romance, danger, adventure, politics and chaos makes for  an intense story.  It's fine for high school libraries.  Enjoy.

The Fill-in Boyfriend by Kasie West

This is fine for any high school library.  It's not literature but it's entertaining.  Gia at first come across shallow and self-surving but Gia is faced with new perspectives and new friends, changing her out look on life.

The Inventor’s Secret: The Conjurer’s Riddle By Andrea Cremer

Ever think your cause is worthy and then maybe later have doubts?  Charlotte must face her concerns in book 2 about all that she believes is right and true.  That there maybe other circumstances in her world as well.  She must be brave as she faces her family and enemies as she decides what to do.  It's part steam punk, part adventure part quiet magic and a lot of danger.  If your library patrons enjoy steam punk then this book will fit right in to your collection for high school students.  Fine for any library.  Enjoy the series.

The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman

Oh this is a great book if you like steam punk, books and libraries and some fun fantasy creatures like fae, vampires and time travel.  The dialogue is snappy, the adventure is on, and the characters are entertaining.  It's a good read.  If you have patrons who like a good steam punk novel then this book is fine for you library.

Isle of Swords by Wayne Thomas Batson

I liked this book a lot.  Think Treasure Island meets Pirates of the Caribbean.  Enjoy.  It's a grand adventure!  Fine for any library at any age who loves adventure.

Cat in the stacks: No Cats Allowed by Miranda James

I love this series.  It's a quick read and fine for any mystery buff.  The fact that's it's library life is just bonus.  It's a good series and Charlie is always solving a mystery with his friends.  Enjoy.  Fine for anyone of any age!

The Trials of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan

Fans of Rick Riordan will happy to read this next story in his series of gods in contemporary world.

The pacing is great, the snappy dialogue will entertain and the action is found on each page.

Beautiful Music for Ugly Children by Kristin Cronn-Mills

This is my second book on the subject of transgender stories for teens.  The other one being If I could be your girl.  This time it's about a girl who knows she's a boy.  First, I shall say this is a good book because I think it's an important subject.  I had a student 15 years ago that I believe she believed herself to be a boy.  As a teacher, I was lost because it was new territory for me.  Second I should mention that there is bullying behavior, some violence target towards our main character and there are some harsh words of unkindness.  These words and actions are a part of the story that is used to make the life believable.  I think it is a good book and an important book.  I would say read the book before you put it in your library so you are aware of the content.  It's an good read.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

It's a different world, think Star Warsish meets Hunger Games.  There is some fighting violence and some torture.  It's pretty intense.  I think it is pretty solid.  It's good.  Enjoy.  Fine for any high school library.

Zodiac: Wandering Star by Romina Russell

It's all right.  Not my favorite scifi book.  Girl has special ability, girl joins leadership of the universe, girl fights bad guy.  It's not bad.  There is a scene that she has sex, nothing graphic.  I would pass on buying for my high school library.  Fine for personal and public library.

Mindfulness for Beginners by Jon Kabat-Zinn

This is a book written at a level for easy reading.  It's told simply and easy to understand.  I liked the audio book.  It's like a coach helping with meditation.  Enjoy.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

There is something endearing about this story.  It's basically conversations with different people and a narration of a young man/teen who is suffering from depression.  There is mention of sex, drugs and alcohol.  It's a good read but there is mature content with in the pages.

Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk

This is a brilliant work of literature.  Should be in all libraries.  It is also an award winning book.  We need more of these kinds of books.  A must read.

Mainely needlepoint: Threads of Evidence By Lea wait

Sometimes you just need to read and enjoy a good murder mystery and this is a good one.  Enjoy.  Fine for any library.  I like the science, history of needlepoint and being a business person.  It's a good read.

Carnival of Secrets by Melissa Marr

This book is marketed as young adult.  However I found one scene rather disturbing as a young naked woman being offered as a proxy to have sex with witness to have a different young girl be married to one of the daimons/demons.  Overall I would say save your time and resources and skip this one.  Overall not the author's best work.  It's a stinker.

Agatha Raisin Mystery: the Quiche of Death By M.C. Beaton

I love a good mystery and this is on my new series to read.  It's funny, charming and I want to move to this little town.  You will enjoy.  Fine for any library.

Wrath of the Storm by Jennifer A. Nielsen

Jennifer A. Nielsen always takes you on an adventure in her fantasy stories.  Perfect for any school, personal and public library.  Read the series.  Enjoy.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

I

Here's the back story of Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts.  There is some violence just to give you a heads up.  It's part romance, part Martha Stewart and all fantasy.  Fine for personal and public libraries.  Enjoy.

Horizon by Scott Westerfeld

This is off to a good start, lots of action and mystery.  Fine for school libraries.  The story is not predictable at all.  Reminds me of some similar stories yet the book forges ahead with twists and turns.

Zodiac by Romina Russell

I am going to read book 2, or at least try.  Who decides to give power to a 16 year old girl who doesn't want it but she has special abilities.  I don't think I'll buy this for my high school library.  Fine for Personal and public libraries.  Oh and the girl gets in bed with a boy and they have a passionate relationship.  Maybe book 2 will be better.
