As a teacher-librarian, I have the opportunity to read young adult books to share with my students. The list that I have provided will have an overview of the book and personal comments. They are on a Book-mercial style image to get a taste of the essence of the book.

Evermore by Alyson Noel
It's okay. A bit of teen angst and romance and magic. The characters are still figuring themselves out. Good for public library.

Yellow Brick War by Danielle Paige
It's a dark story with magical fighting. Not for little kids. It's an add on to the Wizard of Oz series with a dark dangerous twist. It's great for public libraries.

Shades of Earth by Beth Revis
I just finished The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy, where Earth is invaded by aliens. But in this case, Earth are the aliens invading a planet. It's a great series. There is some murdering and bombing taking place in a warfare situation. It works and is fine for any library.
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
It's an apocalyptic story of survival for humans against the aliens. It's filled with dark and violence and runs pretty true if there was an alien invasion from outer space. It works and fine for any public school library.

Wild Rover No More by L. A. Meyer read by Katherine Kellgren
Oh the last book. This is a must read series full of fun, adventure and lots of dangers. Sadly the last book and also more sadly that L. A. Meyer has passed away. These are 12 books worth reading. Sometimes racy but well worth the read. Jacky Faber has all the spirit and passion for life. Enjoy.

Goliath by Scott Westerfeld
If you are a fan of steam punk then this trilogy is for you. This is the last book in the series and is a great read. Solid books, excellent descriptions and quite the adventure. I would say this book is for the avid reader. It is fine for any library.

City of a Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster
I liked this story. Think Divergent meets Sherlock Holmes. I like that this book is a stand alone. But there is a second book. It's fine for any school library. I would add a copy to my high school library.

Boston Jacky by L. A. Meyer
Oh the story keeps getting better and better! Listen to the audiobook series. Katherine Kelgren may just be the best audio reader ever. It's worth it to listen to her sing the various songs. It's a solid story of fun, revenge, compassion and good business adventures. Start at book one and work your way up. I'm looking forward to the last book. Smart and entertaining. Enjoy!

Icefall by Matthew J. Kirby
This is a fine story. It's a slow paced story. Sometimes it feels forced but it's okay. Fine for any school library. Story telling is part of the whole content of the main character.

The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo
Two young kids angry at their parents for leaving. One by death, one by divorce. This book is fine for any library at the elementary and middle school level.

Viva Jacquelina! by L. A. Meyer
Great series of a young woman who is barely 17 and has lived life. Now she is in Spain and spies on the French. There is danger, life and virtue nearly taken away. It's a great series to merge adventure, danger and history with a bigger then life character. Solid story.

UnDivided by Neal Shusterman
Wow it's a page turner! Well crafted. If you have the series in your library, you need this one too! If you haven't read this series, start with Unwind. I don't want to give anything away. It's worth the wait!
The Mirk and Midnight Hour by Jane Nickerson
This story was much more solid. Violet finds her strength. There are quite a few problems she does overcome. Also dealing with the supernatural. I think this is perfect for any public library. There are also a few characters from Strands of Bronze and Gold.

Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson
It's the story of a man who emotionally abuses a young naive woman to force her to marrying him. He's controlling and isolates her. A dangerous man. It's an abuse story. There's also attempted seduction setups. This story isn't the best story. The main character is very naive and thinks she can help him. You'll have to read the end to see how it turns out. I wouldn't put it in a high school library. The story is dark and dangerous. Not my favorite story. Not at all. Took a lot of effort to finish the story. It's a power play with money and abuse.

The Ravenmaster's Secret by Elvira Woodruff
Perfect for elementary school. It's a simple book, but blends history and an eleven year old boy to become a hero. It's a fine story.

Their Fractured Light by Kaufman & Spooner
The final book and worth the wait. Great series. It's different but if you like science fiction and mix in a love interest and trust issues and this is the story for you. Great character development and interesting story line. There are a lot of layers. The two previous books characters all meet up in this last book. At the end .... it's about redemption. Good series. Fine for any library.

Ranger’s Apprentice: The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan
It's a page turner and great sword fights and battle strategies. If you like the Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Enders Game and Game of Thrones, then here is the junior version. Great for any library. Does not disappoint. Just to be clear it's not a science fiction novel, more of a bows and arrows and swords kind of story.

Bumped by Megan McCafferty
It's way in the future. It's a funny book. But there is a lot of references to becoming pregnant. I think it is perfect for a public library but I can see problems for a school library. It's smart and snappy trendy dialogue. The story alternates between Melody and Harmony's perspective as the story progresses.
Rise of the Wolf by Jennifer A. Nielsen
Jennifer A. Nielsen is a very good author for teen books. Her stories are smart and a page turner. Her books are fine for any library. Enjoy!
The Wish List by Eoin Colfer
This is a modern day tale set in Ireland. It's a very smart and funny book. Fine for any library. Enjoy.

Behemoth by Scott Westerfeld
This is a great steampunk series. It's a very smart book with an alternate reality to history. I love that one of the supporting families are Armenian. Which fits in with many of my students cultural backgrounds. This is a fine book for any high school library. Enjoy.
Ranger’s Apprentice: The Lost Stories by John Flanagan
These are side stories of characters from the Ranger's Apprentice series. Great for anyone who enjoys reading sagas of a time with knights and fighting and dangerous politics. Are you a fan of Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Star Wars? This would be the Young Adult version to enjoy. Fine for any library.

Six-Gun Snow White by Catherynne M. Valente
This is not a children's story. I thought it was and was surprised to experience a very different Snow White story. First it's different but really interesting. Next, I'm going to say it's for a more mature audience due to some of the worldly experiences in the story. I am going to say it's more for literature and would be good for a woman's studies story. I shall also recommend that it not be for an elementary or middle school library. I wouldn't put it in a high school library as well. It is perfect for public library. It's also very strange. It's good but it's not just a story, lots of symbology and history and culture. Good for a studies to use for discussion.

The Young Elites by Marie Lu
This a brand new series. I really liked it better then The Legend series. I was so frustrated with our anti-hero. It's a page turner. Some really great evil villains. Enjoy. Fine for any library.

The Foretelling by Alice Hoffman
An amazing story of a culture created based on the Amazons and the European world. A culture where horses were vital to these women living in a warrior nomadic world. The queen, when she was young was attacked, in a rape scene that is implied and not go in to detail. Rain is the result of the action. This goes beyond story but words that are poetic in their own right. An excellent story.

Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare and Company
If you are a fan of Cassandra Clare and the Shadow Hunter series, then this will be an enjoyable read. It's Simon's story. He's return to the world of being human and future shadow hunter. Enjoy. Fine for any library.
The Truth Is A Cave In The Black Mountains by Neil Gaiman
Excellent story. Give yourself a treat and hear the story narrated by the author, Neil Gaiman and accompanied by the FourPlay String Quartet. It's a dark story. A short story. All the elements to make a story that brings you in to it. Enjoy!

Ranger’s Apprentice: The Early Years: The Tournament At Gorlan by John Flanagan
Great series. A new series that provides the back story of the Ranger's Apprentice. If you like Lord of the Rings and the Star Wars saga, go back in time of knights and adventure. Fine for any library. Enjoy.

Incantation by Alice Hoffman
What would you do to protect your family? If danger political/religious winds create a world of persecution, would you stay or leave? Would you have faith and what would you faith in?
Good story for any library. Enjoy.

Princess Ben by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
Perfect for any library. Princess Ben learns to become a young woman and a leader. A little magic in a wizards room helps her find her self. I love the magic truth mirror. Also war fare and romance plus a dangerous dragon. It's a well crafted story and fine for anyone to read.
The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate
Viewpoints in a poetic form. If you like Charlotte's Web, and who doesn't? Then this book is for you. It's based on a real gorilla who was alone for a few decades and how he made it into a zoo with other gorillas. Well crafted. Enjoy. Fine for any library.

Alchemy and Meggy Swann by Karen Cushman
If you are a fan of Karen Cushman, then you'll enjoy this story. It's a different time in the Elizabethan world. Meggy isn't perfect, she's an angry, hurt girl who has two damaged legs from her birth and needs walking sticks to help her walk. Feeling unloved and neglected, she finds out she has made more friends then she thought. For a treat, listen to the audio version. Perfect for any library.

The Last Apprentice: Night of the Soul Stealer by Joseph Delaney
I really like this series. It's about relationships as Tom learns his craft. The story is dark but well crafted. Fine for any library. Enjoy.
The Mark of the Golden Dragon by L. A. Meyer
Jacky Faber is bigger then life. She has a come along way from being an orphan in London. You have got to love her. She has a passion for life that is strong and yet get's her in to trouble. Treat yourself and hear Katherine Kellgren read the story to you. This is one talented reader! Enjoy.
