As a teacher-librarian, I have the opportunity to read young adult books to share with my students. The list that I have provided will have an overview of the book and personal comments. They are on a Book-mercial style image to get a taste of the essence of the book.

The Magician’s Apprentice by Kate Banks
This is a book with lots of layers to it. I think it would make a good gift. Besides Peter Sis illustrated it.
There are a lot of layers to this story. Lot of quotable lines in the book. This is not a magical book like Disney's story, it's its own story.
