The writing style reflects and honesty of a teen who has lost her mother and has the gift of psychic ability that sometimes reveals people's secrets. The raw shock of losing her mother, living with her very strict grandparents and now shuffled off to her aunt, she's disengaged. But that changes when a friend of her's has disappeared.
The writing is good and the story line works. I recommend for teen libraries.
As a teacher-librarian, I have the opportunity to read young adult books to share with my students. The list that I have provided will have an overview of the book and personal comments. They are on a Book-mercial style image to get a taste of the essence of the book.

Split by Swati Avasthi
This is not an easy story to read. It is well written. It is also painful to read. I must say it is also an important story to read. About the life of being physically abused and how it can easily switch to becoming the abuser. This story goes deep. You travel into the emotions of being bottled up. The lies to hide the disfunction. And even when you do escape, you never really do. This is a must for any library.

Summer and the City by Candace Bushnell
The only thing that really has going for it is the cover art. I was not impressed. The main character is shallow and immature. Also lies to get what she wants. Not impressed with the story line. Save your money on this one.
Keeping the Castle by Patrice Kindl
Similar to Jane Austen novels but written for teens. It's a fun read. Lighthearted and loaded with romance.

Also good for middle school students to read. Here is their website if you would like to learn about their center http://www.chipembele.org/
