You Go First by Erin Entrada Kelly

I think this is a good book to have at an elementary or middle school library.  Two students from different places play scrabble online and become friends.  Bullies and family problems are threaded through the story.  Ben is both physically and verbally bullied.  What gets me is that adults aren't noticing even when there are clues to point out that there are problems.  And Ben covers up the bulling.  As I think about this book, the adults are presented as people that the children don't go to share problems. That the relationship isn't there, either at the school setting or the family setting.  Something to think about as you read the book.

Gunslinger Girl by Lynsay Ely

It's a western and dystopian set after the Second Civil War.  The audio book brings the book to life with a voice who does great accents.  Enjoy. Some mature topics but still good.

A Room Away From The Wolves by Nova Ren Suma

The story is a mystery from the very beginning till the very end.  It's a different type of story telling.  There is a haunting and a mysterious group of girls living in the boarding house.   Would I get for my high school library?  Probably not.  It's a book that best fits the public library. 

Fish In A Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt

I liked this book.  There are a few characters in this book with special issues that enrich the story.  Ally is a girl, who misses her father, a soldier deployed.  Her mother, works at an ice cream shop and her older brother, works at fixing things in a different shop.  Ally learns to like who she is and make friends.  She ends  up with a special teacher who makes all the difference in everyone's world.  Enjoy.

Jane Austen Mystery Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas by Stephanie Barron

I love the regency and history and fun filled facts incorporated into a fictional account of Jane Austen, her family and her earnings as an author.  Life was a lot different back then.  The audio book is also a good listen too.  Enjoy.

Magnolia Says Don’t If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, Don’t by Elise Parsley

This is an adorable picture book,  sort of reminds me of the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series.  Magnolia is quite a character and the illustrations are well crafted and fun.  Enjoy this book and add it to your elementary library.  

Emmanuel’s Dream by Laurie Ann Thompson & Sean Qualls

Anther true story, set in Ghana about Emmanuel who has one good leg.  He bikes across Ghana, his home country while advocating for disable people in his country.  It's a good and important read.

Separate is Never Equal by Duncan Tonatiuh

Based on the true story of a family making a positive change, this picture book captures what we all should learn about.  The images are beautiful.  A 1940's feel but with echoes of an ancient Aztec style depiction of people.  Also using photos of texture incorporated into the illustrations give the story an interesting feel.  This book is a must for all libraries.

We’re all wonders by R. J. Palacio

This picture book conveys a powerful message about accepting people, especially if they are designed a bit different physically.  It's about feelings and dreams and makes a bridge to connect us with others.  A must for any library.

The Harlem Charade by Natasha Tarpley

I have enjoyed listening to this audio book, but having said that I also felt it was a bit to pat.  There were some to lucky incidents that felt a bit too convenient.  I like that it was about Harlem and community and it's an okay book for any library.  I just thought it was to easy how problems were resolved. 

Fablehaven Drangonwatch Wrath of the Dragon King by Brandon Mull

Brandon Mull has created a world of magic and non-magic world that is easily to believe.  He's created a family, not just by blood but by community with lots of great characters.  This is a great book for middle school and 9th graders.  It's a great series.  Enjoy.

Funjungle Panda-monium by Stuart gibbs

This story is a great series for any middle school.  It's funny, entertaining and smart.  Think Encyclopedia Brown and solve the case with Teddy.  It's a great read.  The audio book is also very good.  Enjoy.

The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl by Stacy McAnulty

This book should be in all middle school libraries. It's that good.  The audio book also very good.  Lucy is pretty special especially after the lighting rewired her brain, so to speak.  Enjoy.

A Tourist Trap Mystery Rockets’ Dead Glare by Lynn Cahoon

This novella, is a short murder mystery story.  It's an entertaining murder mystery series that I enjoy.  Clues are doled out and see if you can solve the mystery along with Jill.

A Tourist Trap Killer Party by Lynn Cahoon

I enjoy this murder mystery series.  Set in a small coastal town, like Pismo or around that area.  A book store owner solves mysteries.  the characters and relationships in this series are fun to know. If you like murder mysteries, you'll enjoy this series.

Sarah Plain and Tall Skylark by Patricia Maclachlan

Life in a different time brings us a short story about living on the prairies.  Natural disasters in any time can take homes away but it's the spirit of rebuilding and being a family that becomes important.  It's a good read.  Enjoy.  Fine for any library.

Royals by Rachel Hawkins

I really enjoy Rachel Hawkins stories.  They are entertaining and fun.  If you enjoyed the Princess Diaries, you'll enjoy this new series.  Have fun.  Fine for high school libraries.  Enjoy.  Oh and the audio book is fun to get a  bit of the Scottish accent.  Enjoy.

How I Resist edited by Maureen Johnson

I really liked this book.  I would say read or listen to the audio book before you purchase.  There are some political comments of our current government.  I think this is an important book in many ways, a better understanding of opinions, experiences and life views. 

Andy Carpenter Leader of the Pack by David Rosenfelt

Sometimes we just need a good mystery with a dog in it.  I'm hooked on this series.  It's smart and funny.  The audio book is also very good.  Enjoy this series if you like a good murder mystery.

The Traitor’s Circle The Traitor’s Ruin by Erin Beaty

I love this series, Sage is charming and delightful, there's romance, adventure and travel.  It's perfect for high school libraries.  Enjoy, this young woman who makes the most of life and enjoys learning oh and libraries. 

Shimmer and Burn by Mary Taranta

Think Game of Thrones meets Hunger Games meets magic gone bad.  Power plays, political plays and treason all wrapped up in one gift of an intense story line.  I have already checked out the next sequel.  I'm getting this for the library.  It's a good read.  Oh heads up a bit of violence in the story.

A Twisted Tale Part of Your World by Liz Braswell

Disney has a series of teen books written by young adult authors where a particular story is rewritten.  This one is Ursula is the one who gets the prince.  And she wants more.  Fine for high school libraries.  Enjoy.

Jane Austen Mystery Jane and the Prisoner of Wool House by Stephanie Barron

If you are a fan of Jane Austen and also mysteries then this is the book for you.   I enjoy both and read for my own pleasure.  Not really high school library but fun to read.  Also audio book is good.  Enjoy and go back in time when you read this story.

The Chronicles of Prydain the Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander

Go back to a magical time when people and the fair folk coexisted.  Start an adventure and find a lost creature and face an evil foe.  Have fun and enjoy.  I would say good for middle school age.

One Plastic Bag: Isatou Ceesay and the Recycling Women of the Gambian by Miranda Paul & illustrated by Elizabeth Zunon

I am getting this book for my high school library.  Perfect for recycling units, Earth Day displays and also business opportunities.  A positive message illustrating what one woman does with changing trash into treasures that they can sell.  The illustrations are really great.  At the end of book, there are some good facts about the women who cleaned up their world.  It's a good read.  Enjoy.

Spindle Fire Winter Glass Lexa Hillyer

It's a dangerous fairy tale that continues from Spindle Fire.  Elements of the Cinderella story has been brought in.  It's a good story but I think it will be for a certain niche of readers.  Enjoy.

This Mortal Coil This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada

Science Fiction, dystopian world and teens using computers to save the world.  It's an intense read.  It's good and entertaining but I think this story will appeal to a narrow group of readers.  The audio book also good.  Enjoy.

Start With Why by Simon Sinek

I liked this book, there are many good examples of situations and leaders that illustrate concepts that help be better leaders.  Good for students, teachers, admin and business leaders.  I'm getting this for my high school library.  Audio book also very good.  Enjoy.

Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

This is a back story about Ursla the Sea Witch.  Way before she meets the famous little mermaid, she was a person who was friends with the prince.  She had a father, a powerful witch mother both who loved her very much.  She had a dear friend, named Anna and her young friend the prince.  Anna meets with a tragic end at the start of the story, life goes on and years later a new Anna arrives.  It turns out this new Anna is a mermaid and has fallen in love with the prince. 

This story is fine for high school libraries.  The audio book also is done well.  Enjoy.

Debutants Little White Lies by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This is a pretty fun book to enjoy.  With a southern feel, a mystery and revenge it's a good story.  The audio book is pretty fun to listen to.  Fine for any library.  Enjoy.

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

I could not finish this book.  It was not to my tastes.  I really wanted it to work and tried to finish but reading to see if I wanted this in my high school library and I said no and stopped.  The first part of the book is about girls taken from their families to be part of the king's girls to have sex.  The girls are scared and nervous and there are mind games being played along with power games as well.  I would say this is more for adults.  A mature audience. 

Seafire by Natalie C. Parker

I listened to the audio book and enjoyed it.  Fine for high school libraries.  I am looking forward to book two.  I'll be adding this to my high school library.  Enjoy.

I like this series and was happy that there are some back stories.  It's a smart novel.  You don't even have to read the rest of the series since it's a stand alone.  It's a good read and fine for high school libraries.  Enjoy.

I liked this book and it would be very popular at our high school.  I'm a bit concern about all the killing.  I think I will pass on a public high school because of the killing.  It really is a good book and a bit scary.  Reality TV gone bad.

I think that this is an important story to add to high school libraries.  It brings in culture and bullying and growing and maturing.  A must read for all.

This is a sweet story that will fit in perfectly for any high school library.

Star Wars The Last Jedi Cobalt Squadron by Elizabeth Wein

This was on sale at my book fair and I ended up listening to the audio book to see what kind of story line it was.  It was good.  I enjoyed it.  Entertaining and space travel while being chased by the Empire.  Of course I am a Stars Wars fan so there you go.  It'll be fine for any school library.  Enjoy.
