Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot

This isn't YA but Adult.  Some content makes it that way.  It's summer time and I'm on vacation and I love reading Meg Cabot because she infuses humor and adventure and great character development.  I was highly entertained.  You just have to fall in love with Lizzie, who sure talks a lot and spills lots of beans.  It's a good read but not for a high school library. Enjoy.

Fracture Me by Tehereh Mafi

It's a novella that gives the reader Adam's side of the story of what happens after a major battle.  actually it's rather one sided and a blood bath.  We see Adam's struggle with trying to save his brother when he has to pick between two people who he loves.  It's solid.  Good novella.

Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi

This is a great dystopian series.  Also a love triangle involved in this series.  The main series is Juliette's perspective but here is a rare opportunity to see what's going on in Warner's head.  His dangerous father who manipulates and controls the world of Warner.  Enjoy.

The Dark Artifices: Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

It's a new spin off of the Shadowhunter series.  An orphan family of shadowhunters.  Julian has younger brother and sisters that he is taking care of since he was 12 years old.  One brother may be autistic or at least in the spectrum.  When the family works together, that is when they are the strongest.  There is also forbidden love between two work partners.  It's a solid story and it's fine for any library: high school or public.  Enjoy

The Clockwork Scarab By Colleen Gleason

It's a great steampunk novel.  Go back in time and also meet a time traveler.  It's funny and smart.  Mina Holmes has the gift of observation like her uncle and be able to figure out situations based on what she can interpret.  Evaline Stoker is a vampire killer, with amazing strength and physical abilities.  Great character development.  It's a fun read if you like steam punk.  Enjoy.

Ranger’s Apprentice: The Royal Ranger by John Flanagan

Enjoy this installment of the Ranger's Apprentice.  Perfect for any high school library.  We have watched Will grow up from an orphan boy to a man.  The story picks up 15 years after the last book.  Will and Alyss are married, Horace and Cassandra have a daughter and their hands full.  Alyss is on a mission and after a stay at an inn.  Things change when the inn catches on fire and Alyss dies saving a little girl.  It's a great story.  It's a great series.  Enjoy!

Prentice Alvin By Orson Scott Card

It's a great story but for serious readers.  An alternate story of the United States in the 1800's.  Fantasy meets reality to make a magical story with hexes and good vs. evil.  The dangers of slavers and slavery.  It's a good story with many layers.  Start at the beginning and work your way through.

13 Secrets by Michelle Harrison

This is the last story in the series.   It's fine for any library.  It's a solid story and great characters.  Some great evil characters.  Ands about family, trust and working together to defeat the evil.   Enjoy! It's a solid story.

Red Prophet by Orson Scott Card

It's a fantasy mythology of an alternate story of the United States in the late 1700 to 1800's.
Some people have special talents but not there is only one Alvin, the seventh son of a seventh son and yet the 13th child.  Start with book one and work your way through.  It's a saga.  Fine for any library but for serious readers.  Perhaps not for reluctant readers.   It's good writing.

The Rose Society by Marie Lu

It's an intense story.  Our main character is on the verge of madness.  Interesting study.  Strong character, intense story and lots of fighting.

The Mighty Miss Malone by Christopher Paul Curtis

It's about family and it's about growing up during The Depression.  It's a good story.  Deza tells the story of her family and the set backs that they face.  And the hope that they keep as they look for their missing father.  Fine for any library.

UnRavel Me by Tahereh Mafi

Beautifully written, should know that are some serious kissing scenes.  This woman can write.  It's a good dystopian story with some people who have various special talents, powers or abilities.  This includes invisibility, healing and electricity to name a few.  It's war against the military establishment.  It's fine for libraries.

Ranger’s Apprentice: The Emperor of Nihon-ja by John Flanagan

A great story and series.  John Flanagan knows how to spin a story.  If you like sagas this is the book for all ages.  Think Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.

Forest Born by Shannon Hale

This series is amazing.  The more Shannon Hale writes the deeper this series becomes.  It's about healing and facing your fears.  It comes full circle from The Goose Girl.  It's about family and friends.  The writing is perfect.  The characters are rich.  The story is layered.  It's a good read.

The Perilous Sea by Sherry Thomas

This is a rich and complicated story that works.  It has many layers to this story and to the characters.  It's a fantasy that works well.  Enjoy.

Ranger’s Apprentice: Halt’s Peril by John Flanagan

This series is perfect for any library.  It has humor, camaraderie, danger and adventure.  It's smart and well thought out.  If you like the Lord of the Ring series, Star Wars and also Game of Throne series then this series is for you.  It's perfect for middle school, high school and adult.  The audio version is well done as well, kudos to the voice actor reading this series.  The characters are all lovable with their distinct personalities.  Put this in your library!

Ranger’s Apprentice: The Kings of Clonmel by John Flanagan

This is such a good reading series and needs to be in any library.  The audio books are also a pleasure.
If you like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Game of Throne (With out the HBO factor)  Then this is a solid story that has great characters, lots and lots of humor and danger at every other page.  It's an enjoyable read or listen.

The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman

This is a lovely piece of work with lots of twists and turns.  Beautiful illustrations.  The audio version is a treat.  You can't go wrong with Neil Gaiman.  Enjoy.

Five Kingdoms: Death Weavers by Brandon Mull

Brandon Mull does it again.  Great series for those who enjoy adventure and danger.  Right up there with the Ranger's Apprentice series.  This one is more mystical.  A special bonus in this book.  Characters from a different series, the Beyonders have joined up in this book.  Very smartly done.
Great series.  Enjoy.

Ranger’s Apprentice:Erak’s Ransom by John Flanagan

This is a perfect series for any boy, or fan who loves Lord of the Rings, Star Wars (with out the science fiction aspect) or a tame game of thrones.  It's non stop adventure and page turning read.
Danger at every turn.  This series is a must for any library.  Read about loyalty, survival and facing death on a battle field of hot desert sand.  Enjoy!

The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle

This goes beyond a YA book.  It's literature.  There is family abuse of a step father who does wrong with his step daughter.  There is an abusive boyfriend.  It's implied not graphic.  THIS IS A MUST FOR ANY LIBRARY.  It's a good read.  Heavy subject but sadly one that exists.  Beautifully written and I would read more of Moira Fowley Doyle's work if she consistently writes like this.  

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

This is the book one should read!  It's based on the true bombing of the Wilhelm Gustloff but it's the story of those who face so many challenges.  A must read for all high school students in history.   Also Read Ruta Sepetys, Shades of Gray.  Another must read based on real events.  This author can write.  Salt to the Sea is a must for all high school libraries.

The Kissing Booth by Beth Reekles

This book was written by a teen.  It's very clear it was written by a teen.  Find a different book to read.  Trust me on this one.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

It's a dystopian world and perhaps a bit apocalyptic. It's a page turner with some romance.  It's a fight for survival and one bad dude who has lots of power trying to take over Juliette who is a lonely character who has been isolated for a long, long time.  It's written well.

Ranger’s Apprentice: The Siege of Macindaw by John Flanagan

This series needs to be in every library.  It's addicting.  If you enjoy Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Game of Thrones and Star Wars this is the series for you.  Perfect for elementary, middle school and high school.  Enjoy!

A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen

This is a must read!  Perfect for any library.  My mother lived in Berlin,  West Berlin.  As a child growing up in California, I asked my mother about the wall.  She said it happened overnight.  She really didn't talk about living in West Berlin.  I wish she had, this book is a good read to recreate the feeling of what it must have been like living in  East Berlin.  Put this on your reading list!

The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group by Catherine Jinks

It's an entertaining book that is fine for any library.  It's set in Australia.  Enjoy.

Magnus Chase & the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

It's smart and solid.  Fine for any library.  The Viking gods and life are brought into the contemporary world as Magnus navigates through his new life and making new friends and enemies.  A good book!

Lady Renegades by Rachel Hawkins

A magical teen story that works.  Enjoy.  It's a fun and sometimes snarky story that will entertain.

The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson

Excellent book.  Laurie Halse Anderson can write a story.  Post Traumatic  Stress is what Hayley and her dad are dealing with and alone.  It's not easy taking care of parents as a teenager, I know I had to and so when I read this, Anderson nailed the anger and frustration that a teen girl would face with ill parents.  This book is up for the California Young Readers Medal for 2017.  It's a good contender with the solid story that teens will connect with.  Perfect for any library.  Repeat, perfect for any library.  Enjoy.

River Secrets by Shannon Hale

This is a great series.  Fine for any library.  What is nice about the series is that different characters get to star in their own story that ties all together.  Shannon Hale does it again.  Enjoy.

Nugget & Fang by Tammi Sauer & Michael Slack

It's a picture book about friendship.  It's okay.  I'm not fully wowed about it. It is fine for any library.

Enna Burning by Shannon Hale

This story is fine for any library, school or public.  Solid characters and fine plot.  A young girl changed and angry, fighting to be normal again.  Trying to save her country from invaders.  Figuring out true love.

Worms for Breakfast: How to Feed A Zoo by Helaine Becker & illustrated by Kathy Boake

This is a great picture factual book.  I learned about it at the 2016 California School Library Association from Deborah Ford of Junior Library Guild.  I bought it for my high school because we have zoology and also be Fresno Chaffee Zoo is a few miles from our school.  I'm glad I bought it.

Seventh Son by Orson Scott Card

This is quite the start of a saga.  There is reference to religion and magic.  I see this as a smart book that rewrites American history and creates a mythology.  Sort of a American Hobbit (with out orcs and hobbits) and Lord of the Rings (with out elves and wizards)  It's a solid story and fine for any library.  Enjoy.

My Sister Lives on the Mantle Piece By Annabel Pitcher

Listen to the Audio book with David Tennant reading. Perfection.  Great story about tragedy, with the lost of a girl from a 9/11 bomb blast in England.  Parents that are absent one way or another. Making friends with people of different cultures.  The loss of a pet.  It's about growing up.  It's a good book.

Prized by Caragh M. O’Brien

It's pretty good.  It's about increasing the population of the society in a world were there are 9 men to 1 woman.  I would like to read book 3.  It's okay for a school library.

Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien

It's a genetic and political dystopian society where the poor families outside the wall must give up their babies.  Gaia is forced to find the key to help the betray everything she knows.

I think it's a good story.  I think it's perfect for public libraries.

Fridays with the Wizards by Jessica Day George

I'm a fan of Jessica Day George.  This is a great series and prefect for any library.  Are you fan of Harry Potter,  then you will enjoy this series.  Enjoy!

Empire of Shadows by Miriam Forster

I really like this series.  I think it is fine for any school or public library.  Good story about friends, family and loyalty.  Enjoy.

Between the Lines By Jodi Picoult & Samantha Van Leer

This is a great book.  There are three stories in one.  Great dialogue and lots of fun and problem solving.  Perfect for any library.  For sure school libraries as well.  Enjoy a great read.  Solid characters.  Enjoy!

Perception by Kim Harrington

It's okay.  It goes a bit overboard but it's entertaining.  If you're looking for something simple and easy to read as well as a mystery then this book will work.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

This is a good story but I would say the situation doesn't actually portray what really happened at these camps.  Bruno meets another little boy who is also 9 years old that is Jewish.  Bruno is innocent of knowledge of the actual world of what is going on.  It's a tragic story at the end.
