Genesis Begins Again by Alicia D. Williams

I learned a lot reading this book.  A young girl is not happy with how she looks because of messages she gets from her father and school mates.  She goes to extremes to change her skin.  Some are dangerous and hurtful to herself.  She also learns to make friends with a new girl and find out who she can trust and can't trust.  Her father's lies also come out to the open.  It's a good book for any school library.  A good read and a good audio book.

Code Name: Lise by Larry Loftis

An incredible woman who doesn't cave under pressure.  Brave and bold, charming and determined.  The atrocities of the Nazis during World War II are revealed as Odette's story is unfolded.  Not an easy read when it comes to the torture but the love and respect between her and fellow spy Peter Churchill is touching.  A true story and a must for any adult library.  The audio book also very good.

The Wild Robot by Peter Brown

A interesting story about a robot who is shipwrecked on an island.  Could be a metaphor for new people coming to a new land.  It's a good book to add to young children's library and also middle school library.  Enjoy.

Track Ghost by Jason Reynolds

A great read for young elementary and middle school students.  A must to add to these library school grades.  It's a good read and a good audio book.

I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sanchez

A very raw story about life as the youngest girl and the pressures of her family places on her as she is trying to find herself.  A very realistic story.  Some f bombs and she ends up having a physical relationship with a boy.  It's a good read.  A powerful story.

Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

The audio book really captures a feel for an old west type life in this alternative historical fantasy that has zombies known as shufflers in this story.  A very clever book and great drama.  Fine for any high school library.  Enjoy.

Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart

Think the Talented Mr. Ripley meets Young Adult literature and you get one very psychological thriller.  Jule is a very clever girl.  A very dangerous girl.  A very deadly girl.  You don't want her for  a friend because she is so dangerous.  It's a real page turner.  Audio book also very good.

The Treat by Andrew G. McCabe

I have new respect for the FBI.  I would like to say thank you to all agents who help protect the US and citizens of the US.  This is a good read.  Maybe a bit much for high school.  But a good read for adults to learn from.  The audio book also very good.  It's scary what real life can come up with.

The Darkdeep by Condie and Reichs

It's a good series and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.  It's a page turner and good for young readers in elementary and middle school.  Add this to your library.

Front Desk by Kelly Yang

I loved this story.  The audio book is also very good. I love that it is based on the author's young experiences.  She can tell a story with heart and humor.  The lives of immigrants in a new world can be a challenge and so this is an important story to add to a library.  Enjoy.

The Folk of the Air The Lost Sisters by Holly BLack

This novella explains one sister and how she must trust a dangerous fairy.  Should she?  The relationship of the sisters is layered with complications.  If you are reading this series, add this to your list.

The Wild Robot Escapes by Peter Brown

A mother can be a non relation.  And Roz is different from any other robot created.  She helps out on the farm but her heart is yearning to be back on her old island and with her animal family.  It's a good read for young people.  Enjoy.

A beautiful book to add to any library.

Not So Different by Shane Burcaw

I liked this book.  It's a picture book of Shane and his situation.  It's a book that is honest and positive and explains his life.  I would like to add this to my high school library.  Granted it is geared to younger students but I think it is important to add to high school students as well.

A Tourist Trap Mystery Corned Beef and Casualties by Lynn Cahoon

A murder mystery novella.  I'm addicted to this series.  Enjoy.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

Family dysfunction, relationships that are challenging.  Looking for a mother who will help her grow up instead of tearing her down.  Boys who harass girls.  How does she communicate with her family?  Especially when her words are burned up.  It's a good read.  Audio book also very good.
Fine for high school libraries.  Just be aware, it can be painfully true. 

Section 13 The Lost Property Office by James R Hannibal

It's a great story for young kids.  Enjoy a fantasy adventure as a family looks for their missing father. Secrets are slowly revealed and Jack learns he has a family ability. 

A Very, Very Bad Thing by Jeffery Self

Marley is a bit snarky but after a while I started to feel for him.  I listened to the audio book.  Marley must face a horrible truth by the end of the story. 

The Dark Artifices Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

The Shadow Hunters story continues.  War, Love and politics with power grabs and how it all ends.

Derkholm Year of the Griffin by Kiana Wynne Jones

Fine for elementary, middle school and high school.  Magical school? Adventure and danger is a fun read to enjoy.  Audio book also very good.

Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss

This is more of adult literature then young adult literature,  It is well crafted but sometimes uncomfortable as to how her father thinks.  Wait till you get to the end.  Oh boy.

Nikolai Duology King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

I have been enjoying reading this series.  The audio books are also very good.  The story continues with King of Scars.  I'm looking forward to publishing of the next book.  Characters that we have encountered: good and evil are back.  Even a old wolf.  It's a good read and perfect for high school libraries.  Enjoy.

Tell Me Everything by Sarah Enni

It reminds me of Emma by Jane Austen, in that Ivy gets involved with other peoples business.  It's not that Ivy is doing it on purpose, she wants to help them.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it backfires.  It's cute. It also talks about social media and responsibility.  It's not a perfect book.  Not my first choice but it's fine for teens. 

Charlotte Holmes A Question of Holmes by Brittany Cavallard

It's a great series.  Charlotte has had a troubled past.  She is part of the Holmes legacy, she has also had to fight addictions.  She is very smart with a tortured past growing up with a stern father bordering on physically and emotionally abusive.  She can also solve mysteries.  It's a good read.  Fine for high school libraries.

The Valiant The Triumphant by Leslie Livingston

It's a great series filled with politics and fighting.  Fallon is a strong female character who drives this story.  Lesley Livingston can tell a fine story.  Fine for any high school library.  Enjoy.

Wildwood Series Cybele’s Secret by Juliet Marillier

I hope a book three will be created.  It's a travel story to a different time and different world.  Romantically written and full of mystery.  It's a good read and also a good listen too.  Enjoy.  Fine for any high school library.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

A magical story with a bit of romance.  A great story with dark evil that steals people away or brings them back changed and dangerous.A girl who finds out what she really is and how she helps battle evil.

The Bitter Side of Sweet by Tara Sullivan

This is a very hard read.  It's difficult to read knowing that these events are happening.  Even though this story is fictional, the author has done a good job researching the slave labor of harvesting cacao pods in the process of making chocolate.  A must add to any school library.

Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand

This is a thriller that is also a page turner.  It's creepy and bloody.  Think Friday the 13th horror movies meets Nightmare on Elm Street with a different type of nightmares.  There is a dark entity that is evil and feeds off of young girls by killing them.  To get these victims, he has a family of women who bring these victims to him.  It's a dark story that is really creepy.  It's also fine for high school libraries.  You feel for each of the three key girls in the story.  The author does a good job of helping us understand each girl. 

The Lost Hours by Karen White

This is a great read.  A good read about a difficult time and the friendship that endures even when there is a falling out.  It's dealing with the ghosts of the past and facing the pain hidden under so many emotional scabs.  A infant baby boy who is black is found in the river.  The baby is dead.  A secret room in the family manor with a baby crib from the past that is discovered by a young woman.  And the story of a charm.  It's a great read.  The audio book also very good. 

Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee

This is a great series to include in elementary and middle school libraries.  I am glad that more authors are adding myths and creatures from many cultures and bringing them into the present or in this case in the future.  It's a good read.  Enjoy.

Twelve Steps to Normal by Farrah Penn

It's a good book to add to high school libraries.  Good for when you have students who have family members are working on their sobriety.  It's not easy for teens to juggle all sorts of problems.  Add this to your collection.

The Highest Mountain of Books in the World by Rocio Bonilla

 A charming book fine for any school library.  The love of reading is illustrated by one little boy.

Lillian’s Right To Vote by Winter & Evans

There has been time when the US has been unfair to groups of people when it comes to voting.  People were treated unfairly and wrongly.  We must remember these times so that we don't repeat them.  This is an important book to have in our libraries.  It is also up for vote with CYRM 2019 2020 school year.  Add this to your library collection.

The Montague Siblings The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee

Not my favorite.  I would say read this before you put in your library.  There is some mature content.  Henry is a sexually active fellow.  The plot is over the top.  More for public libraries.  I am going to pass for now.

Almost Autumn by Marianne Kaurin

Based on family history, the story has been translated to English.  It's a good read.  Right up there with The Girl in the Blue Coat. 

The Rough Patch by Brian Lies

If you have ever had a dog from puppy to adulthood, or just adopted a dog, you know how they become such an important part of your life.  And then, sadly, the dog no longer is there.  This book, is beautifully done, capturing the feelings and emotions that go with missing a dog.  A special dog,  I think that this book would be good for all ages, even adult.  A must add to the library.

A Spy Called James by Rockwell and Cooper

This is a good book for elementary libraries.  It's a good read.  And a true story. 

Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith

I'm getting this book for my library.  It's a cute meet, romance and also muddling through teen life figuring it out and getting ready to go to college.  It is an enjoyable read filled with places to go and people to visit.  Enjoy.  Also loved the audio book.

Nevermoor Wundersmith The Calling of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend

Think Harry Potter meets Charlie and the Chocolate factory and you have more magic then you can shake a wand at.  Enjoy this magical story. 

Pretend She’s Here by Luanne Rice

Pretend She's Here is a teen thriller.  A family that has gone to far by kidnapping the friend of their deceased daughter to take her place.  Talk about your family dynamics.

What Every Body Is Saying by Joe Navarro

It's a very interesting book.  Well written and very helpful in reading as well as listening to the audio book.  Great examples.

Took by Mary Downing Hahn

When a rich family must sell their home and move to a more economical place, things go from bad to worse.  Fighting and bullying and apathy are all part of the new way of life in a house that has been neglected because of a past tragedy of the loss of a little girl.  And then another little girl goes missing.  A crazy old .... very old witch with a hog that walks on two feet is behind it all.  Fine for school libraries.

The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld

A picture book about loss and all sorts of feelings.  It's a good book.  Add this to you libraries, even high school.

When by Victoria Laurie

It's a thriller for teens.  Part paranormal and a murder mystery.  Fine for any high school library.

Sadie by Courtney Summers

This is not a light read but it is a page turner.  The story is told in flashbacks by a radio reporter and by Sadie herself.  She is going after her sister's killer.  She knows who did it and why.  It's an intense story that you don't want to put down.  I think it would be important to give readers a heads up that there is  a man who is a sexual predator for young little girls.  The story is well crafted and an important read.  I must say it is a challenging read and an uncomfortable read because of the content.  I liked the book but at the same time it is raw and painful to take this journey with Sadie as she goes after the bad guy.
