A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith

This is a must read for all.  Even the person who is in the presidential office should read this book.  Or at least listen to the audio book.  It's humanity and understanding what people went through and the universal challenges that are faced.  Watch Francine grow up into a young woman.  It's a good story.

The Bird and the Blade by Megan Bannen

This if fine for high school libraries.  I like that it's a old world feel set in an Asian type setting.  Strong characters and lots of surprises.  Enjoy.

The Illuminae Files Gemina by Kaufman & Kristoff

Told in multiple perspectives, this story continues.  There is a bit of science fiction, Dr. Who style.  It is survival of the smartest.  It's an intense read.  Fine for high school libraries.

Brooklyn Brjuas Bruja Born by Zoraida Cordova

I like this series.  It's about a family that are witches.  Not like the kind from Europe but more Latino based.  They are a good family who sometimes gets into trouble but they band together to make it right.  Fine for any high school library.

Never Every by Sara Saedi

It's an updated teen version of Peter Pan. Peter is a tyrant who has hidden agendas.  He controls the island and even has girls taking birth control.  It's fine.  Okay for libraries.

The Apocalypse of Elena Mendoza by Shaun David Hutchinson

This reminds me of the TV show Wonderfalls.  Loved that quirky show.  This is a great quirky story.  There are some words to be considered but it's a good story.  It has a bunch of layers to it.  I think it's perfect for the public library.

Winter night Trilogy The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden

This magical legendary book is like traveling back to a darker simpler time in Russia.  It's a great read and I am looking forward to the next in the series.  I'm getting this for my high school library.  I think... nay I know, I'll need a bigger library!  Enjoy.  Also enjoy the audio book as well.

Denton Little Denton Little’s Death Date by Lance Rubin

It's a pretty funny book.  There is some sex but not graphic, just mentioned.  It's a mystery and all these seemingly random events happen to Denton.  He finds out a lot more then he bargains for.  Will I get for my high school library?  Probably not but I'm glad the public library carries it.

Five Kingdoms Time Jumper by Brandon Mull

Brandon Mull is a very creative writer and an excellent story teller.  His stories are perfect for higher elementary and middle school libraries.  Think Dungeons and Dragons, meets Lord of the Rings, meets contemporary kids in another world and you have fantasy adventure that students will be asking for the next in the series.  Enjoy.  Audio book also very good.

Slacker by Gordon Korman

This is a funny book!  It's a positive book and enjoyable as well as entertaining.  The audio book is done in an engaging way.  Perfect for elementary and middle school libraries.  Enjoy.

Everybody, Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult Peopleby Bob Goff

I really liked this book.  Bob is a Christian and how he connects with people around him is by his actions.  The book is told with humor, truth and personal stories.  No matter what your religious background is, this is a good book to read.  If you like Zig Ziggler, then you'll enjoy this book.  The audio book also is very good.  It's a good car audio book to drive around and listen when running errands or a road trip.  Enjoy.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth by T. Harv Eker

I'm reading books about money.  I'm reading these books because I want to help my high school students become better managers of money.  I liked this book a lot because it made me think about how my family looked at money and how I look at money.  I hope this helps my high school students because I wish I had read this book when I was in high school.  Also the audio book is also good.  I'm getting for my library.

It's funny and smart.  Perfect for elementary and middle school libraries.  It's a good guys read.  Enjoy.  Audio book also funny.

It's a vanity book that was published because some one famous is connected to the book.  Save your money and time on this one.

A Day in the life of the vice president by Pence and Pence

Save your money.  It's more of a family member writing a book about their family and getting it published.  Save your time, as well. 

Damar The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley

If you like Tamara Pierce series, you'll like this one as well.  Who doesn't like a good dragon story.  Great strong female character.  Enjoy.

Get Rich Slow by Sarah Riegelhuth

I'm getting this book for my high school library.  My goal is to prepare my students in the world of money management.  The more information they have and understanding as well as getting them ready for adulthood.  It's a good read.  Audiobook also good.

The Charles Schwab Guide to Finances After Fifty by Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz

Even though I run a high school library, I still might get this for the students to think about their future.  I know .... maybe not but I want my students to be ready for their financial adulthood.

Neveworld Wake by Marisha Pessl

Similar to We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.  A group of friends who were golden in high school regroup and end up in a car accident.  They are in a type of limbo where only one will live. There the truth of what happened to Jim, Bee's boyfriend is revealed.  Interesting read.  I think it's fine but a few gaps.  I don't think it will fit my student reader's interest in the library. 

The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt

Have you ever seen The Christmas Story?  The one with the boy in a pink bunny outfit and a lamp in the shape of a leg?  Did you laugh and laugh and enjoy watching a family as they go through life?  Then you will enjoy The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt.  He's a tricky author.  He made me cry in Orbiting Jupiter.  It's a good book.  Should be in every library.  I know I'm going to add to mine.  The audio book also very good.

set in the 1930s and autism not nearly as known as it is now, this story incorporates facts of life on the island as well as a good story.  Worthy of any school library.  Especially middle school.  Enjoy.

This story is for young children.  A bit of mystery as a young girl returns and finds a childhood friend.  Good for younger children.

The best part about this book is the cover art.  I couldn't finish the book and I really tried. 

One Year to an Organized Life by Regina Leeds

I liked this book.  Lots of advice.  I think I will be adding this to my high school library.  It's important to teach organization skills and I believe this book is very helpful.  It's a good read.

Money management is very important and it is important that our young people are prepared for managing money.  I am planning to add this to my high school library.

It’s Not What You’ve Got! By Wayne Dyer and Kristina Tracy

I like this picture book.  I'm also a fan of Wayne Dyer and sad he's gone but glad he left great books, video tapes and audiobooks about living a better life.  This book is a great starting point to get the conversation started about money.  You'll be seeing this book on my high school library shelf.

I like Suze Orman,  I've heard her talk about her financial mistakes that led to making her become a better money manager.  Her life experiences and her education about making money earns her the credentials of being a money expert.  I'm starting a program in my library about money matters.  This book will be added to the resource section about money.  Audio book also very good.  Enjoy and learn about money.

Clark Howard’s Living Large in Lean Times by Clark Howard

I'm looking at books to add to my library to help my students find more information on money management.  My goal is to make them better aware of the importance of having a plan for money earned and spent.  This book will be added to my collection even though it is adult reading the reading is written for easy comprehension.  The audio book also very good.

Money Master The Game 7 Simple Steps to Financial Freedom by Tony Robbins

I'm starting a new program for my high school students.  I'm reading and reviewing various books on the matters of money.  I will add this title to my shopping list and put it reference.  I think some students will find this a good resource.  The audiobook also good.

The Trials of Apollo The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan

I know I have lots of teens who love Rick Riordan books.  This is another one I'll need to add to my high school library.  Mythology plus contemporary teens makes mythology refreshed and priming students for the study of the past.  Enjoy.

The Lady Janies My Lady Jane by Hand Ashton and Meadows

This is too funny.  History rewritten in an alternate universe.  The audiobook is the best with one of my favorite readers.  Great energy and humor in this story.  Enjoy.   I am looking forward to the next book.  I think it will appeal to a certain group of readers who enjoy Dr. Who stories. 

Captivate: The Science of Succeeding with People by Vanessa Van Edwards

I listened to the audio version of this book and learns some great hints and suggestions.  I think I would like this for my high school library for self help.  It's a positive book.  Enjoy.

I'm getting ready to start a new program in my high school library about finances.  My goal is to have information, guest speakers and bring in questions students have about money.  My concern is that some people may not be as prepared about money matters by the time they are ready for adulthood.  I I plan on ordering this book and others for my high school library to help my students be better managers of their own resources.

Bruce Bruce’s Big Move by Ryan T Higgins

I love this series.  Bruce is darling.  A grumpy old bear who ends up adopting geese.  Start with book one and keep going.  Even though it's a young children's picture book, it's entertaining for all ages.  Filled with humor and adventure.  It's a great read.

Dear Martin by Nic Stone

I would say definitely read this book before you consider including in the library.  It has some language to consider and be aware of but more importantly it reflects what is going on the world with police shootings of people of color.  It is an important read.

The Penderwicks The Penderwicks at Last by Jeanne Birdsall

I love this series and I think this might be the last one. One can hope that the story picks up with grandchildren.  The family is darling.  Sometimes it is nice to read about a family who is a lovely connected and close family.  Enjoy.

Constellation Defy The Worlds by Claudia Gray

I liked this story a lot.  It had lots of good elements to make it a good read.  I am looking forward to more of Claudia Gray books.  Fine for any high school library.  Enjoy.

Carve the Mark The Fates Divide by Veronica Roth

Sometimes I think authors get inspiration from the news around them.  Good story.  Fine for high school.  Read book 1 first. 

Aftermath by Kelly Armstrong

I liked the story but it's more of a "Gaslight" kind of story.  There's a thriller/mystery.  It's good.  I'm glad it's at the Public Library.  I don't know if I would put it in a high school library just because of the shooting.  I want to be sensitive to tragedies of high school shootings.  Over all it's a good mystery. 

All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook by Leslie Connor

This is a perfect book for middle schools.  Its a good story that incorporates determination, kindness, respect and research.  Perry is pretty mature for his age.  It's a good story.  Enjoy.

Arc of A Scythe Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

Oh my goodness.  Wow such an intense story and a real page turned.  I would love to meet Neal Shusterman and ask where do you get such ideas?  It's good, evil and in the middle.  Powerplays, plot twists and surprises.  I'm looking forward to the next book.  So getting this for my high school library.  It's a good read.

Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornoll

I liked the book very much.  I know there are people who struggle to leave their homes. This book is fine for any high school library.
