M. C. Beaton knows how to create characters and crazy situations when she writes her murder mysteries.  The audio book is a great version to listen to.  Enjoy.

It's a touching story.  More of an adult level of reading but a high schooler could read it. A good read.

The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

For fantasy time travel magical books, this is entertaining and good.  I enjoyed listening to the audio book.  A must for high school library.  Fine for middle school too.  Lots of mystery and humor.  Enjoy.

The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr

This book is brilliant!  I'm getting this for my high school library.  Flora has a form of amnesia.  The author really builds her character and the people around her.  This is a must read!

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

I love this story and also the artwork that goes with it.  It's sweet and poignant.  Painful at times and hopeful at others.  If you are a fan of fan fiction and graphic novels and real life teens then enjoy this story.  I'm getting it for my high school library.

Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

So much to say about this book.  First I loved it, coming from a father who was a violinist, music teacher and maker of violins.  Then I had just visited the area where parts of the books had been mentioned in the Germany-Austrian world.  I also enjoy a good fairy tale.  I would I put it in my high school library?  Well..... I wish I could because of all the musical influence and it's just well written .... but..... there is some very sexy scenes.  I mean really sexy for mature audiences.  So I'm recommending the book and happy the public library carries the book and also fine for personal   libraries.

Shanghai Girls: Dreams of Joy by Lisa See

Wow this is an excellent story.  Travel back in time to  a different China.  At times there is hope and other times there is pain.  A must read!  It's going in my high school library!

House of Furies by Madeleine Roux

Steven King, look out!  Here writes Madeleine Roux and she knows how to capture the imagination of young teens.  I'm getting this for my high school library.  It's dark, it's gothic, it's mystery.  It's dangerous and it's one heck of a read.  Enjoy.

A Conspiracy of Us: Map of Fates by Maggie Hall

Not to bad this story is.  There are some sexy scenes just to give fair warning.  Travel all over Europe in this series.  Would I buy for the high school library.  No.  But fine for public and personal libraries.

Wolf by Wolf: Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin

If you thought the first book in this series was intense, wait till you read the rest of the story.  It's an alternate history in which Germany, the Third Reich has take over a part of the world and it's in the 1950's.  Think the Xmen meets the alternate history of the world.  It's a good and smart read.

Eurona Douolgy: The Great Pursuit by Wendy Higgins

It's a bit on the steamy side and also on the fighting side.  It's fine for personal libraries but I wouldn't purchase for a high school library.  Maybe because of the steamy side.  I updated the series to adult level.  Really mature readers may enjoy.  Lots of fighting. And a bit of sex.

Eurona Duology: The Great Hunt by Wendy Higgins

Think Game of Thrones (the junior version... if there was one) meets the Grimm Brothers, and you have a story that does come from the Grimm Brothers fleshed to life. It's a good read.  Lots of politics, and special powers and an angry villain.

My Antonia by Willa Cather

This was a personal read for me, my father's family were also pioneers.  It's a classic and a must read to connect to our American history.  It is also a fine piece of literature.  We have come a long way from the time this book takes place.  A letter has so much more value then a text on the cell phone.  The again there were no phones back then or just starting to come to the big cities.  It's an agricultural story, it's a coming of age story, it's an immigrant's story and it's American's story.  The audio book also is good.  This book is like a fine dinner.  Enjoy.

Stella Bain by Anita Shreve

Historical, a different time of how life was lived on both the US and Europe.  A woman who has a mysterious past that she can't recall until she has help from a kind family who helps her find her way.
It's a good read.

The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge

Interesting book.  Fine for any high school library.  I like the courage and intelligence of Faith as she fights biases.  Fine for any school library.

A Tourist Trap Mystery: Hospitality and Homicide by Lynn Cahoon

This is a darling murder mystery.  Think  a young Murder She Wrote.  I highly recommend this series if you like a good murder mystery.  Enjoy!

Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

This is one incredible story.  It's an alternate world in the sense that Hitler and the Third Reich basically own the whole world.  A young girl was experimented on and now she can shape shift.
Her mission, once she escaped from the concentration camp is to take out Hitler.  It's intense and I'm buying this for my high school library.

Same Beach, Next Year by Dorothea Benton Frank

This story reminds me a little bit of Shirley Valentine, a great movie.  It's a good story.  It's a narrative of both Adam and Eliza of their life together.  It's a good read.

Kate Shackleton Mystery: A Medal for Murder by Frances Brody

This is a different type of British mystery.  Set back after WWII and Kate Shackleton is a war widow.  It's a more somber tone to these mysteries verses the more funny Hamish Macbeth and Agatha Raisin series.  I do highly recommend this series as well if you are a fan of murder mysteries.

The summer of reading mysteries by M. C. Beaton is nearly over.  It's a good read and the audio book is delightful also.  Enjoy.

I love the audiobooks in this series.  If I could have a mystery dinner party, I would invite Agatha Christy, M. C. Beaton and Lynn Cahoon and a few others.  Enjoy.

All American Boys by Jason Reynolds & Brendan Kiely

I'm getting this book for my high school library.  Brilliantly written as how teens would talk and handle a situation of police brutality.  The ending is brilliant.  A must read.  Add this to your shelves.

The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son on Life, Love and Loss by Anderson Cooper & Gloria Vanderbilt

I really liked the audio book version of the to hear both author's voices making the story more grounded.  It's about the lives of a mother and son and their relationships with other people to form who they become and how they've grown in life.  I'm floored that Gloria Vanderbilt was 91 years of age when the book was created.  I'd say this is a good read and listen.  Lots to learn about life.

The Orphan Queen: The Mirror King by Jodi Meadows

It's a good read and good series.  Fine for any high school library.  There is a lot of fighting and violence, mainly towards monsters.  Enjoy.

A Kate Shackleton Mystery: Dying in the Wool by Frances Brody

This summer I've indulged in reading mysteries especially set in England and Scotland.  I like that there is a bit of history involved in this story.

Midnight at the Electric by Jodi Lynn Anderson

I loved this story.  I love that there are letters and journals that read true and authentic.  Adding details in history that don't sound like a history book but as friends and cousins writing to each other.  It's all connected and worth the read.  Good book to add for social studies classes to read.  This is my second book I've read by this author, Jodi Lynn Anderson.  I'm adding this to my library.  Enjoy.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Who doesn't like  a good Cinderella story?  And blend it with Star Wars, Star Trek and Firefly references.... OMG, I'm a geek too!  This is an adorable Cinderella type story.  Fine for any high school library.  I predict it will be a popular book. ..... hmmmm maybe get two books for the library?  Enjoy it's a good read.  Also no magical creatures were brought in to this story.  It's all real world.  Nice.

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

This story really bring a blend of fantasy, folktales and scary eeriness alive in a dark Russian forest.  Always a dangerous life and more so for the womenfolk.  This story has all sorts of levels to it.  It works well.  It's a good read and the audio book brings it alive.  Enjoy.

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

It's a smart book set in contemporary times.  There is some addiction and relationships of a personal nature.  If you have a reader who enjoys a good mystery, then this is a good book.  I think it will be for a niche group of readers. It is a good read.

Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum

I will get this book for my high school.  The author, created a story based about when she lost her mother at fourteen years of age.  As I read it, it reminded me of when I lost my father when I was a teen also.  There is a large range of feelings and dynamics that are happening both in real life and in the story.  It's a bit of You've Got Mail and Sixteen Candles, with out the wedding.  It's a good story.

I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella

The audio book is charming with a great British voice.  Sometimes you just need a cute adult book to enjoy.  I enjoy this author's writing style.  Sometimes you need a sweet book. 

What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum

Oh my!  Did you like Elenor and Park?  Then read this book!  It is a must read and read it before you put it in your high school library.  This is a brilliant book written in two voices.  A bit romance, cyber and physical and verbal bulling.  Dealing with grief.  Dealing with parents.  Dealing with friends.  This is on my shopping list.  I think I'll put it in my teen book club list to read.  I would say it needs to be in the California Young Reader's Medal.  This is seriously good.

School Ship Tobermory Series: The Sands of Shark Island by Alexander McCall Smith

I so want to either be 13 and go this school or be one of the teachers on this ship.  Ahoy and anchors away on this one.  Perfect for elementary and middle school libraries.  The audio book is also great.  Enjoy.

The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie

Lots of head game playing.  Cassandra falls for a girl on the ship.  Can you trust the one you love or are you being used?  Think a dash of steampunk, pirate politics and sea monsters and you've got one interesting story.  Fine for high school libraries.

It's a good summer read if you like a good murder mystery.

The Lost Books Series: Lunatic by Ted Dekker

It's a dark adventure story with a bit of religion in the saga.  Ted Dekker knows how to create a story. The audio book is good as well.  Lots of intense situations.  Can't go wrong when you read/hear a Dekker story.

I Sing the Body Electric! by Ray Bradbury

Sometimes you have to go back to the classics.  Ray Bradbury had the gift of story telling.  Perhaps his ideas are ahead of his time for now we have Alexa from Amazon who is an artificial helper, we have tablets and we have sent probes to Mars.  The audio books version is a good listen.

Dale Carnegie & Associates: How to Win Friends & Influence People in the Digital Age

I'm getting this book on Overdrive for my high school library.  It's that good!!!!! It's non-fiction and it's life lessons.  It's given me ideas for adding to my library program.  Enjoy! It's worth giving as a gift to leaders, graduates and just because.

A Hunter Series: Elite by Mercedes Lackey

I like this series and will get it for my high school.  Good plot, strong characters and interesting and engaging problems.  I predict that this book will be popular at my school.  It's a good read.  Enjoy.

Hunter by Mercedes Lackey

Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer and set in the future and you have a pretty good story.  I'm buying this for my school library.  I appreciate how smart the lead is in the story and doesn't use as much magic as others.  Also she has ethics.  You want to root for the good guys and figure out who the big bad is.  Enjoy.  Audio book is also good.

Septimus Heap: Darke by Angie Sage

Great fantasy series:  Think Harry Potter goes back to before cars, and other technology.  It's a series fine for elementary, middle school and high school.  Enjoy.

Divided we Fall by Trent Reedy

Wow this is an intense book!  It's good and scary politically speaking.   Written a bit into the future but not futuristic.  I'm buying this for the school library.  Did I mention intense.  What would happen and how would the US have another civil war?  Here's a book to read and be warn.

Yep I'm hooked on this murder mystery series set in the highlands in a small village.  I love the characters.  And I love a good who done it? I grew up on Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes.
