As a teacher-librarian, I have the opportunity to read young adult books to share with my students. The list that I have provided will have an overview of the book and personal comments. They are on a Book-mercial style image to get a taste of the essence of the book.

Easy on the Eyes by Jane Porter
This is an adult story about a woman who finds her strength. She doesn't need to be rescued she just finds herself. I met the author last year at the Clovis Cowgirl U fundraiser. I liked the story and am enjoying reading another book in the series. There is nothing torrid in the story and teen girls could read it also. Some good messages.

The Thief by Megan Whelan Turner
Over all I liked it. If you like this book then I recommend the False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen.
The book was good. I do think there could have been some editing. Some details were a bit off or thick. Think Lord of the Rings meets the False Prince. It's good. Good for any library.

Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George
This is a fun read! I look forward to more in the series. Who doesn't want a magical castle that can expand and change on it's own. It's almost alive. If you like Harry Potter, then this story will be a fun read for you.

Hansel and Gretel by Jenni James
An interesting twist in the classic story of Hansel and Gretel. In this retelling Gretel is adopted into the family. I love a good fairytale but this isn't it. The writing style is a bit stilted.

Being Good: Juicy Central by Jada Jones
This is the series of inner city kids who get into situations that they need to learn from. Each character has their own story. Some of these kids make choices as to drink and the girls do get their hands on some alcohol. You also see the problems that can happen with those choices. The author wrote this as kids speaking with slang and vocabulary that isn't traditional proper grammar. She's keeping it real. So if you're looking for a book for kids who may live this life, this might work.

Size 12 Is Not Fat by Meg Cabot
Okay this was a fun read. Lots of biting humor and a hum dinger of a mystery. Older teens would enjoy but more on the college level crowd. Enjoy. I'm looking forward to reading more of her series.

The FUture of Us by Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler
This was an interesting collaboration between two authors. What would you do if you had a way to find out about your future? Would you change it or let it ride? Would you look to see other people's fate?
I kind of liked the book. A lot of 90's references that I grew up with. So it was fun for me.

M is for Magic by Neil Gaiman
This is a feast for the brain. I heard this on audio and it is written with lyricalness and richness. Each story has it's own character. Some I recognized from other books he's written. I'd put Neil Gaiman right up there with Ray Bradbury. Enjoy.

Epitaph Road by David Patneaude
Interesting concept but poor delivery. I wasn't really impressed with this book. Not a real page turner rather ho hum.

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman
This was such a fun read! For older kids. I actually listened to this on audio. Reminded me of a movie called The Mighty Quinn. Well written. That Gaiman can sure turn a word and spin a story. Entertaining and smart, it does double duty!

The Captive Maiden by Melanie Dickerson
This another retelling of the Cinderella story. It's written a bit awkward, at least in parts of the story. It's also a bit preachy, about Jesus and God. The transition between the preaching and the story doesn't flow very well. It's like two things instead of one unified story.
Kit's Wilderness by David Almond
I recommend listening to the audio book. It's a feast for the ears. It's a strange story but crafted in a lyrical writing style. This is a good literature piece. A fine addition to any school or public library.
It's not for the average reader. If you have an appreciation for fine writing, then this is it.

Soulbound: Legacy of Tril by Heather Brewer
This was entertaining but there are holes in the story that the author leaves or makes assumptions that we can fill in the blanks. I think a good editor would have been able to polish this story up and catch some of the problems of the story and have the author revise the story. It has great potential.

Wildwood by Colin Meloy
This is a very interesting book. I listened to it and enjoyed. I was a bit puzzled by the parents in the story but the author does address them in the plot.
