As a teacher-librarian, I have the opportunity to read young adult books to share with my students. The list that I have provided will have an overview of the book and personal comments. They are on a Book-mercial style image to get a taste of the essence of the book.

The Sea in Winter by Christine Day
This book is a perfect one to add to any middle school library. It covers history far and near, nature, culture and the pain of not being able to do what you love to do and the feelings that go with that. a good read and a good audio book.
