As a teacher-librarian, I have the opportunity to read young adult books to share with my students. The list that I have provided will have an overview of the book and personal comments. They are on a Book-mercial style image to get a taste of the essence of the book.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
Wow, what a great prequel to the Hunger Games series. Suzanne Collins is a talented writer. The audio book was also very good. The characters are strong as well as the story line. I am going to have to get this one for my school library. Enjoy.

Frost by M. P. Kozlowsky
This is two Will Smiths movies mixed together Legend and I Robot. At least that is how I would describe it. A dark world is where Frost lives in. She's been sheltered all her life guided by her robot /father. Now like Rapunzel who wants to see the world and save her dog, she encounters a scary world.

Stronger, Faster, and more Beautiful by Arwen Elys dayton
Imagination can transport us to different worlds and times. This one takes us to the future. An interesting read. I think it would be fine for high school. I should add that there is some violence in this story.

War Girls by Tochi Onyebuchi
There is a lot going on in this story. Lots of action. I got lost in this story, I had trouble following the story plot. I wasn't always sure what was going on. I would say read this book before you purchase.

In the future there is a terrible disease that has spread. It's been controlled but another problem to health is the air that is so polluted, people are sick and dying. A young girl invents an filter that helps people breath. An evil wealthy man wants it all and will kill to get it. A great series. A bit sexy as well. A good read.

Girls with Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young
Not to far into the future, is when this story takes place. Thing Westworld meets Stepford Wives.
The girls are treated like property and that their lives are under the direction of the school administrators. It's an awakening for the girls as they discover their truths. I'm getting this for my high school library.

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee
An interesting concept of kids partying, doing drugs and having sex. Where are the adults? Oh good question. The adults have their own set up problems. Would I buy this for my high school library? No.

Zodiac by Romina Russell
I am going to read book 2, or at least try. Who decides to give power to a 16 year old girl who doesn't want it but she has special abilities. I don't think I'll buy this for my high school library. Fine for Personal and public libraries. Oh and the girl gets in bed with a boy and they have a passionate relationship. Maybe book 2 will be better.

Shade’s Children by Garth Nix
This is an intense sci-fi story encapsulated in one story. If you are a Garth Nix fan, this is his more older teen books to read. Enter into a new world, a new earth, a new world of intelligent life. Think Space Odyssey, meets AI and zombies. I should mention there are f*bombs and also sex.

When We Wake: While We Run by Karen Healey
When We Wake is book 1 and was excellent. Book 2 is just as suspenseful. The first part is the torture of our two young love birds who tried to make the world a safe place. Australia and the rest of the world is in an ecological disaster and resources are limited. Now government and military are involved in a dangerous and deadly venture. The girl who was brought back to life after over 100 years ago is wanted by everyone. This part of the story is told by Abdi who really just wants to go back to Somalia.
It's an intensely good read. Enjoy! There is some violence and torture. I think I am now a Karen Healey fan. She's from New Zealand. I've been to New Zealand & Australia and would go back in a flash. It's great to read stories from authors from all over the world.
