The Ballad of Lucy Whipple by Karen Cushman

In this story you can really feel how unhappy Lucy is to be uprooted from her nice home and moved to live in a dirty tent and take care of miners.  There is so much to read in this special book.  You see it in her letters to her grandparents and in her experiences living in her new world.  It's a good read.
